As a healthcare professional, I found Prof. Burns take on the eco system very relevant and refreshing. This is a comprehensive and well written account of US healthcare stakeholders and their intertwined relations. It’s a must read for new comers in the industry.Thank you for documenting the knowledge professionals gain after years of experience into a guide for future healthcare leaders. This will be taught in business schools very soon.

Amazing overview of the healthcare system with detailed explanations of key factors.I've read a number of books on healthcare over the past few years, I'd say this one sits towards the top of the stack near Reinhardt's Priced Out but above Rosenthal's An American Sickness or Brill's Bitter Pill.

Authors anecdotes and wit make this a fun and interesting read. Information is presented in a concise manner, it is streamlined and well put together.

As a family physician with over 30 years of experience, I read most of a The US Healthcare Ecosystem by Lawton Robert Burns, a university educator for 30 years in at least 2 Ivy League schools, contributing to the education of MBA’s and other healthcare administrators. I did not finish it primarily because the author’s knowledge about the facts and realities of healthcare and conclusions made were often inaccurate. Not surprising his shortest chapter was about the clinicians who deliver care. He introduced word games used by business and administration healthcare theorists to support and convince how healthcare is and should be delivered in the US. Burn’s writing is non-reflective on a subject so complex, touching, and too often disturbing millions of uninsured and underinsured of lives while overspending on unnecessary and outrageously priced items from drugs to technology with a subspecialist myth and falling short of supporting and delivering essential health and care to the whole population of the richest country in the world,.
