Rubinstein Collection, Vol. 56 - Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 8, 14, 23, & 26

I enjoyed listening to Rubenstein play many years ago. Now, I can listen again as often as I want!

The 4 Sonatas represented here are probably among the most familiar of all of Beethoven's work to the general listening public. They are beautifully rendered by Arthur Rubenstein in a recording of very good quality. This is an ideal purchase for someone who is seeking an introduction to Beethoven's work since the music is highly accessable and the price is very affordable. Rubenstein's playing is basically straightforward and sensitive, perfectly suited to the 4 selections presented here.

Rubenstein plays Beethoven. What more can you want? I'm no music connoisseur, so I can't discuss the recording in depth.

For lovers of A-List performances of Beethoven piano sonatas, this is a must have recording. In my opinion, only Andre Watts does as well or better performances of Beethoven piano works.

Rubenstein is a master in the music and the emotion.

Out of all the music that Beethoven wrote these particular Sonatas are my favorite, and Arthur Rubinstein my favorite interpreter. This cd is a gift to anyone's ears.

Moonlight! Appasionata! Les Adieux! OK, to the Tempest is on a different disc. The complete collection is beyond our means, but one volume - fantastic.

I like Richter's gritty and labouring renditions of Beethoven sonatas, but I often comes back to Rubinstein's graceful Beethoven for refreshment. Yes, no matter which composer's music he plays, there is always evergreen freshness and refinement in Rubinstein's style of playing.

Wer hätte das gedacht? Das sind tolle Interpretationen, wobei ich die Pathetique absolut herausragend finde. Für mich hat sich der Kauf alleine für diese Aufnahmen bereits gelohnt. Die anderen Sonaten sind für mich insbesondere im Vergleich mit anderen Interpreten sehr interessant.

L'esecuzione dell'artista è eccellente ed i brani nel CD sono molto belli ed emozionanti. La bellezza struggente della musica viene in una certa misura offuscata dal rumore di fondo che proprio non ci vorrebbe.... ma la registrazione analogica non poteva essere ripulita con un software moderno per restituire l'intero incanto del genio di Beethoven?

In età matura, Rubinstein esegue rara incisione di Beethoven delle più classiche sonate ove, anche se con lievi sbavature tecniche, ottiene un'autentica ed essenziale interpretazione capace di coinvolgere profondamente l'ascoltatore.

Bien qu'Arthur Rubinstein connaissait l'ensemble des trente-deux Sonates de Beethoven, seules quelques unes apparaissaient dans ses concerts, et il n'enregistra que sept d'entre elles, certes à plusieurs reprises pour les plus célèbres : trois fois la « Pathétique », deux fois « Les Adieux », mais une seule fois la « Mondschein ».Ce volume 56 de la collection qui lui est dédiée réédite des gravures réalisées en 1962-63, également reparues sous format SACD.On appréciera particulièrement l'interprétation ensorcelante du célèbre Adagio de la « Clair de Lune », dont le pianiste polonais déchaîne ensuite le finale « presto agitato ».Ou encore la dramaturgie croissante imposée au Allegro assai de « L'Appassionata », que ses phrasés étoffent par une dialectique quasiment orchestrale.A tout instant s'anime un art de conter tendrement (la narration du Allegro molto Op. 13 est une merveille...), de varier l'éclairage sans rompre le fil d'un discours subtilement sensible au texte.Même à ne considérer que les témoignages gravés par les plus éminents artistes, la discographie de ces quatre oeuvres est abondante.Quand tant de pianistes semblent réciter un discours trop bien appris, le style beethovénien de Rubinstein garantit des perspectives renouvelées à chaque écoute.
