A Good Read But Lacks Climax
This book was a really good read and I was really enjoying it. But as I got deeper and deeper into the book I was starting to wonder when the actual escape attempt was going to take place. It seems like this book is more of a book on life in the prison rather then the actual escape attempt itself. As that is only a very minor part of the book. The book is still a good read but I was just hoping for a little bit more out of the actual escape itself - maybe the author could have spent a few more pages on the main point of the book?

Writing Style Frustrating
I did not find this a pleasant read. Every paragraph seems to start a new topic and with a huge cast of characters it's easy to forget where this is going. I suppose if you were one to read a book in a few days, it would move quicker, but I tend to read 20-40 pages a night before sleep. I just found it scattered in it's writing and that leads to a frustrating read. I found that I was asking "who is this character now? Have we met him before? What do we know about him?" and coming up blank. There is no doubt an interesting story to be told and judging from the other reviews here, others did not find the same issues.

A Powerful Real-life Break-out
I kept turning the pages on this one: a surprise for me because I don't like drug-smugglers and was expecting something smug from the one who got away. Every chapter is a self-contained story building up to the big night. Actually, the big night becomes less important since we know he got out but that doesn't spoil the story any more than knowing Charles de Gaulle wasn't assassinated in Day of the Jackal. Most of the people David meets in the prison are instantly real. I, like most readers, would want more of the life that led to the arrest and what happened next. I suppose that's coming and there couldn't be more packed in to a book 300 pages long. ESCAPE is a book I'll read again and don't hesitate to recommend to all readers.

Very hard to follow along
I found this book quite difficult to read. Alot of the story and situations were disjointed and hard to understand. I never got a sense of perspective and there were way too many names introduced all the time. The writer would have done better to write in a more focused and simpler prose. The book was a bit allover the place.

Disappointing
The book was very interesting at first and at the end but the in-between was boring. A lot of looking back in the past. It seemed to me it was just to fill up space.

Gripping
Gripping. But I heard from a Thai ex pat that it's not an accurate portrayal of Thai prison.
