What kind of magnet will repel these shavings? I want a "wand" to move the shavings to reveal a message. Is this even possible?

The closest you’ll get is switching the polarity in whatever magnet you use. But it won’t really move them away, it’ll just agitate the filings until each price is flipped. If that’s what you’d like to do then it may be best to get a long rare earth magnet and use it below the word to collect the shavings below and move them off the word. Any magnet will just collect the shavings and they’d be kinda hard to get off the magnet as these are pretty fine particles.

Iron Powder is great!

I used the powder for a Magnets class at summer camp, and it worked beautifully in water and in trays. The kids loved it. I also used it to make magnet slime, and it worked very well. Thank you!
