Bourbon Bliss: Bootleg Springs, Book 4

LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH! VERY IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR MORE!
This is the fourth book I have read in this series which I highly recommend. I love revisiting family members, especially the Bodines, who live in small towns like Bootleg Springs. Sisters Cassidy (dating Bowie Bodine and featured in Book 3) and June have been mentioned in each of the books, and now it’s time for June to get her chance at love, with one of her real-life heroes no less.I loved the way Cassidy looked out for June, always included her, and made her feel special. I just wish June’s “quirkiness” was identified in the book as being a form of Asperger’s or a mild form of autism rather than “this is just the way she is.” The way she spoke, her literal interpretation of conversation, her thought process, her high level of intelligence, and her comfort with things familiar and routine, are all part of the condition.I loved June in this story and can’t find one fault with her. She was loyal and loving and truly an inspiration. I admire a heroine who is smart and June had it in spades with her photographic memory of statistics and her mathematical genius. June didn’t have a mean bone in her body and I was so happy that she not only found love, but found it with the hot and handsome and very talented George “GT” Thompson!GT stumbled into Bootleg to use the healing power of the hot springs for his injured knee and that is when he meets June. At first it was just a glance in the coffee shop, but then it was actually at the hot springs. This scene and many others had me laughing out loud and I loved the two of them together. My favorite scene in the entire book is when they were dancing, and how he understood her quirks and hesitation, and found a way to get through to her. They were two unlikely people who wound up being a perfect match.Although he made very poor decisions regarding his finances and I didn’t like how passé he was about letting someone else handle all his affairs, especially since he retired and had time on his hands, I did love him as the hero of this story. He was genuine, warm, patient, caring, and, of course, a talented athlete as he played pro-ball. His relationship with June was so genuine, and I loved how he adored her and valued her as a person as well as all of her charming characteristics. I also admired how he reflected on the things he had either said or done, and how he could admit when he was wrong.I loved how the Bodines and Devlin accepted GT and their ritual for it by tossing him in the lake. So funny! I mostly enjoy revisiting the family members, Scarlett, Bowie, Jameson, Gibson, Jonah, etc. Without giving too much away, the missing-person Callie story continues and brings everyone together; I am really looking forward to learning how it all plays out. I have been reading all of the speculations and I am sure Claire and Lucy are giggling as they are the only ones at this point who know the ending of book 6!I like the fact Cassidy and her dad are on the police force and how they come together to support one another and try and solve the mystery, and how June also helped with the case. Also some funny, brave, daring, and bold moves on her part (like when she went into the Biker Bar). Go June! This book was beautifully and brilliantly written and had me captivated from the very first page. I am hoping for a book 7 because so far, most of the couples are engaged or dating and there have been NO WEDDINGS!

George And June’s Journey To Their HEA, Where “Possibility Is Stronger Than Probability.”
Well, first I have to say that in my opinion, Ms. Kingsley redeemed herself from Book Two in this series. I was not a fan of her writing style and felt that Jameson was shortchanged by a lack of character development in that book. That being said I very much enjoyed June and George (GT)’s story.June is a complex individual, brilliant, with superior analytical and mathematical skills. She is blessed with a supportive nuclear network comprised of family and a few close friends. I would have to go out on a limb and assume she is challenged by a mild case of autistic spectrum disorder, although that diagnosis is not revealed to us by the author. Her inability to understand emotions and struggle with sexual responsiveness is a clue along those lines. Her blunt honesty and her way of expressing herself is refreshing and appealing but also has townspeople labeling her as robotic and different.George and June’s story was portrayed with tenderness, affection, respect and warmth. We can’t help but cheer for her and are quickly made aware of the power of understanding and celebrating and valuing one’s strengths in supporting self discovery and growth. I admire and respect George’s patience with June’s sexual issues and his plan to help her overcome it.The Callie Kendall story still plays out in this installment of the series and interesting turn of events takes place. In the end we are still left wondering how the disappearance of Callie Kendall many years ago will ultimately end up. We’ll have to patiently wait till the final installment of Book Six. Can’t wait! This story rewards readers with a great many “feels.” The scenes are heartwarming, sexy, humorous, and heart wrenching. Makes for an entertaining read. I recommend this addition to Bootleg Spring series and the series itself. Can’t wait to read Jonas’ book up next written by Lucy Score, my all time favorite author.

June and George
I absolutely love Juney! She’s genius level smart, determined, kind, and supportive of her friends, family and community. She’s so interesting and I like that she sees things differently than everyone else. I found her viewpoint refreshing and her bluntness was hilarious.George is just a big teddy bear. Strong, loving, sweet and sexy. He really sees June for who she is and loves her completely. He’s a little lost now that his pro football career is over but he finds everything he didn’t know he was looking for with Bootleg Springs and June.George and June are so perfect together. The support, love and patience George has for June is so sweet. Their first meeting was so funny and spot on for them.I love how all June’s family, friends and the town accept her quirks. I fall more in love with Bootleg Springs every time I finish another book in the series. You also get more clues to the Callie Kendall mystery, partly from June’s detective work.Full of laughter, hope, love, heat and an HEA.

A weekend read.
I wish the writers would go beyond quirky nerds and sports heros. Have been reading the series in reverse order, and while each story is relatable enough, I think I am also tired of no mention of race and the usual gender stereotypes. I like how the mystery is untangled book by book without making it distracting. I still hope for better writing especially when it comes to characters. The tropes of cute-meet and the defining arguments are all predictable but not boring. But somewhere the focus seems to be off. Nevertheless, it's a weekend binge.

Spitze
