Exceeded all expectations!
As someone with mild arthritis in my hands, opening cans used to be a frustrating and painful daily chore. I bought the Bellemain Ergonomic Can Opener hoping for some relief, and it has genuinely exceeded my expectations.Unlike traditional openers that require a forceful grip and awkward twisting, this design is remarkably smart. The secret is the side-cutting mechanism, which slices through the side of the can rather than the top. This leaves behind smooth, dull edges with zero risk of accidentally cutting your fingers or dropping a sharp lid into your food. The turning knob is oversized, rubberized, and extremely comfortable to hold. It takes almost zero effort to rotate, gliding smoothly around the perimeter of the can.**Pros:**- Effortless side-cut mechanism creates completely smooth edges.- Large, comfortable, rubberized crank handle is ideal for people with arthritis or hand fatigue.- Does not leave the cutting blade in contact with the food inside the can, making it much more hygienic.- Durable construction feels solid in the hand.**Cons:**- It is slightly larger than standard pocket openers, so it takes up a bit more drawer space.- Because it cuts along the side, it takes a couple of tries to get used to positioning it correctly compared to top-cutting models.Overall, this is an outstanding kitchen tool that delivers on its promises. It has removed the pain and hazard from a routine task. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Bellemain Ergonomic Can Opener to seniors, busy home cooks, or anyone looking for a safer, easier way to open cans.

Better than a traditional can opener, with one small tradeoff
I had never used this sideways/smooth-edge style of can opener before, but after using it, I think it is better than a traditional can opener in almost every way.The biggest benefits are that the blade does not really get wet, so rust should be less of an issue, and it leaves smooth edges on both the can and the lid. It is also easier to turn than my old can opener, which makes it feel less clunky overall. The only downside I did not think about ahead of time is that the lid does not work as well for straining. For example, we eat canned tuna about once a month, and with a regular can opener I would usually press the lid down to squeeze out the water. That does not work nearly as well with this style of opener. That said, the tuna issue is the only real drawback I have run into. For normal can opening, I prefer this style now. The cleaner cut, smoother edges, and easier operation outweigh that one inconvenience.

worth your time and money!
Was a little apprehensive about buying this type of can opener, being so different from the traditional hand opener. I decided to give it a try and I am pleasantly surprised! After a little time to figure out exactly how to work it, as there is no double handle to squeeze, it worked like a charm! Just place it on top of the can and give it a couple clockwise turns and it kind of locks on and "pops". Then just keep turning until you go around the whole can. You can kind of tell when you've done that as there is less resistance. When you reach that point just turn the handle counter clockwise a couple turn and it releases. I haven't quite figured out the lid grabber thingy well yet but if you hold the can you can pull up the lid and discard. No sharp edges! No pesky edge left inside the rim which makes it so much easier to scrape everything out of the can! I would recommend this "smooth action" opener for no muss no fuss!

Better than conventional can openers
Conventional can openers for the same price usually fail to function as advertised or wear out fairly rapidly. This can opener has faithfully provided consistent service throughout the time I've owned it (about six months). I like the safety feature of opening a can without leaving a jagged edge. Follow the instructions provided for a satisfactory experience. Usually reversing the operation to release the can opener provides enough pressure to remove the lid but failing that the feature to remove the lid functions as advertised (leave can on a solid surface to remove lid--otherwise juice from the can might spill). Ease of operation to remove the lid is equal to or better than conventional can openers. The only drawback is the user is required to remember where he or she first started the process to remove the lid--sometimes the reduction in friction isn't easily discernable (as described in the instructions). That is just a minor inconvenience. Just remember where you started to open the can with this can opener.

I KEEP WONDERING, WHY ISN'T THIS THE DEFAULT?!
For 55 years, all I have seen and used are can openers that leaves behind sharp, dangerous edges. This one feels like magic! When i first tried it, I honestly thought I wasted my money. As I used it, it didn't seem to work at all. I kept twisting, but nothing appeared to happen. I assumed it was faulty. Then I checked the instructions, and the magic was revealed. This can opener doesn't cut from the top, it cuts along the side, leaving a smooth, non-sharp, completely safe edge. it is effortless. because the cut is on the side, I can even use the removed top as a cover. And since there are no sharp edges, I don't have to worry about hurting myself. The entire process is smooth, quiet, and easy. After using it, I can't help but ask again: WHY ISN"T THIS THE DEFAULT?!

It does the job easily
I know when I grab this can opener from the drawer it will work. Easy to turn, has small grippers to remove cover, solidly and well made. Has not failed me yet.

So much better than the conventional can opener
For those of you who are tired of sitting there and grinding away on any given can, with some dirty rusty opener, this is the upgrade for you. This thing cuts around the top, making it easily pop off, it doesn't fall into whatever's in the can, it's very sanitary. I love it!

Replace your old can opener and get a new favorite kitchen tool!
After finding this excellent can opener from Bellemain, I’ll never go back to my old-fashioned one. Unlike US-style openers that cut through the top of the can and leave sharp edges on the lid, this Bellemain opener cuts smoothly around the edge of the can for safe removal. It has a comfortable handle, and it can be used by left- or right-handed people since the rotating mechanism is on top of the opener, rather than on the side.

Efficace

Review & Rating Updated to 5 stars
UPDATE: Turns out there was a small page with instructions that I missed. It's SO easy to use now that I know how LOL [FYI - turning the knob in reverse will get the opener to release]Still a pain to drain tuna, but that's not the can openers fault. LOVE this opener and how easy it is on my hands and wrists. Highly recommend.***I just can't seem to make this thing work. I eventually figured out that it will lock onto the can automatically when i start turning the knob, but no matter what I do, I can't get it to release when it's done cutting. I fight with it EVERY time until it just finally pops the lid off.Love that the can edge isn't sharp when using this, but I didn't think things through very well when I bought it. I only need it for cans of tuna and when using this opener, I can't press the kid into the can to drain the liquid out. Now I have to dirty a strainer, as well.BUT, it cuts beautifully. Very easy on my hands and wrist.

The grabber doesn't grab
Tried to open multiple cans, each time I can't pull the top off because the grabber isn't holding on. Had to use a knife to open my cans five times now
