easy way to learn a language at a local library ...
I was lecturing on the fast, easy way to learn a language at a local library and found this book on the shelves. I had been rather contemptuous of Esperanto and believed my time would be far better spent learning languages that would be useful. This book changed my mind. I found I could learn quickly and easily, but my knowledge of other languages certainly helped. I recognised words and roots of words from other languages. I believe the opposite is also true. Learning Esperanto will help you learn other European languages.I purchased a copy of the book for myself and a whole lot of other books on Esperanto and downloaded material from Lernu! This book is well written and a pleasure to read. It makes a strong case for learning and teaching Esperanto; the second part of the book is a basic Esperanto language course and the third part is a basic reader. I consider the book to be inexpensive and well worth the price. This is a book that I treasure.

very good introduction
One of the most interesting language textbooks I've ever come across. It's divided into 3 sections: first, some philosophical and historical background; second, traditional vocabulary/grammar lessons; third, short literary works in the language to demonstrate how expressive it can be.My only complaint is the odd way it avoids standard grammatical terminology. For example, instead of saying that the -us ending on verbs represents the subjunctive mood, it gives a roundabout explanation about how the ending is used to represent conditional situations. The presumption, apparently, is that the reader has never learned grammatical terms.

good primer
I found this to be a good all-around book on Esperanto. The first part is a good short history on the language problem and Esperanto. The second part is a series of 10 lessons that does a good job of teaching the basics of Esperanto. The third part is a reader of over 100 pages of articles on various subjects that will help advance your Esperanto to the next level. If you know English and wish to learn Esperanto, this book will give you a solid foundation

Esperanto for Everyone!
If you are new to Esperanto this is the book for you. Though useful for any stage of learning, this book lays out the basics. Everything from basic phrases to grammar. This book is great and I refer to it often because of its usabikity for most anyone. I praise the author!

Excellent book
I ordered 1 for me, 1 for my brother, and one for my wife! The first 3 chapters discuss the language problem and history of Esperanto. After that it is easy to understand lessons that build up your comprehension logically in each lesson with plenty of examples and practice. From having this book 2 weeks, I can already read articles written in Esperanto. What I don't know I can look up in the dictionary in the back of the book. On Esperanto as a language, it has a rich history and many organizations and people around the world who support it. This is well worth checking out!
