Not Heavy Duty - Buy More Than You Need! (12 mm Review)
To begin, I want to avoid being too harsh on a product that costs 1.3 cents per unit. That's insanely cheap. And once installed, the snaps do work, although I find these snaps to be not as "snappy" as I would prefer. They don't really "click" firmly closed, and the hold of the snap is not very tight. But I am satisfied enough that I'm not going to take them apart and do the project over again. A couple other points:(1) Installation of the snaps with the provided tools works, but I found it to be very inconsistent. After getting lucky with my first few attempts, I found that I was ruining or deforming almost as many units as I was successfully installing. Granted, I was installing on a thicker strap, across a seam, which is challenging. Your conditions or project could be more ideal. But I recommend buying quite a few more units than you think you need, to account for wasted product during install. (If you have a fancier pliers-like tool that will definitely help, as long as it is the correct size for these 12 mm snaps).(2) The "gunmetal black" color is a very shiny metallic color, that seems more steel-grey on installation. Very reflective. Definitely not a cast iron black, if that is what you are hoping for.(3) The 12 mm snaps cannot handle very thick applications. I was using these snaps to replace the worn-out Velcro on the straps of our patio cushions. For one type of cushion the snaps were barely able to handle the thickness of the straps. For the second type of cushion we have, the snaps absolutely would not work. The post of the snap was just too short to make a good connection for the crimping installation. I have now order some 15 mm snaps, which have longer posts, for the second batch of cushions. I have included two pictures with this review. The first shows successful installation on the slightly thinner strap, and the second shows the slightly thicker strap that these snaps couldn't handle.

Frustrating
The instructions are not adequate enough for someone who has never set snaps before. I'm a sr citizen and the print is so small I had trouble even with a magnifying glass. I figured out the caps and posts but the other two parts could not be figured out by the tiny pictures so just had to do trial and error. I understand they are reasonably price and you do get what you pay for. Finally got a practice set installed and I'm not satisfied with the way they snap together - it is not a crisp snap and one is left wondering if it is correctly closed. They must be because it's a strong tug to open them.

Good, but not for my project.
These took a bit to figure out how they were to fit together, but I finally figured it out.I'm taking old belts to make wrist bands. I had quite a time with getting these to fit the thickness of the old belt leather. I actually used a drill to make the holes bigger. Ha. I don't think this is the fault of the snap, but that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The questions answered say it should work. These would work on other projects, but not for what I purchased them for. I got 2 on here, but I'm not sure they are as secure as they should be.

Received a mess and takes extreme pressure to get them to snap together.
When I received this item, the interior of the product did not look like the photo. It looked more like someone dumped a bucket of pieces into the box. Different parts are all over the place. This may be due to shipping, but it would have had to been shipped in a bouncing truck down the highest mountain to get jumble mess like this.Installing the parts, after having to dig thru the mess for all 4 pieces, is pretty straight forward. The broken English instructions (printed small, so get a magnifying glass), do an adequate job of telling a user what to do.Actual ease of use of the snaps is another story. I have not had one set snap together properly without needing the strength of Hercules to press them together. The snaps look good, but something is off as they shouldn't be that hard to press together.Overall, for a hobby level use, these would be ok. For anything needing a more professional use, you may want to keep looking.
