Water was dirty and tds measured at more than 250 ppm after soaking with distilled water. **Q: Is this good for propagation?** A: it's perfect for that, it's sterile and retains moisture but is light and airy. **Q: Can I cover floral foam with this for a pampas hanging arrangement?** A: I don’t think I would try that. It’s very tightly compacted & tends to come apart in small pieces. It is not “sheet” like. You could glue it for an artificial arrangement I suppose **Q: Does this mix contain peat? I’m looking for a peat-free product** A: all spagnum moss is basically fresh peat moss. what's sold as "peat moss" is this species of moss, but dug up from centuries-old bogs and has turned into coir-like fluff. they are from the same plant but behave very differently. this is light and springy new whole blond fronds, regular peat moss is heavy, powdery, brown and compacted tiny filaments and basically "filler" in soil mixes. coconut coir is a good, sustainable substitute for peat, but there's really nothing like spagnum for plant health. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ PROPAGATION SUCCESS! *by on Reviewed in the United States August 11, 2026* I grow a lot of plants...it has taken over my house and large backyard greenhouse. I am always looking for cheaper and/or better alternatives for my supplies. I found an extremely low priced moss on another website and decided to give it a try. I should NOT have done that! Upon rehydration, the moss had a horrible "swampy" smell. I didn't have any alternative so I went ahead and used it for a decent amount of houseplant propagations. Nothing rooted and the only thing I grew was mold. Not only was it a huge waste of time and space, I ended up throwing out many expensive cuttings.Needless to say, I was very critical of my next moss purchase. Upon receiving this moss, I immediately opened and smelled it. Not only did it not smell like a swamp, it smelled GOOD! It smelled like raw life...hard to explain. If you truly love plants, you'll understand what I mean. 🫠I had excellent propagation success with this moss. Most cuttings rooted within a few days. I was also able to reuse the moss with other cuttings. In fact, I ended up only using about half of the package because there was no waste.This moss is at a lower price than anything I've found at local nurseries. Although it cost more up front than the horrible swamp moss, in the long run it cost less because I had success using it for my propagations.Zero complaints on the quality, quantity, and value.
