Great Tales from English History (3): Captain Cook, Samuel Johnson, Queen Victoria, Charles Darwin, Edward the Abdicator, and More Review: History written to inform AND entertain... - As with Lacey's previous 2 books in the series, this one is nothing short of superlative. The writing style is very straight-forward and direct, which leads to a highly entertaining read. Shame the series could have not been larger/longer--truly hated to see it end. Review: Fun Read - Just as the two previous volumes in this series, this was an enjoyable and easy read of the highlights of British history. High School history classes would be more fun if they used this book instead of the traditional textbooks.

redundant
Unfortunately, these stories, no matter how good they were, were already included In the single volume (which had no number).

The third Volume in a Wonderful Series
This third and final volume by Robert Lacey really finishes the series. Included are tales about the famous and the not so famous. What I really like about his books are that they are stories- great quick reads about events that we may not be familiar with. I highly recommend this book to any Anglophile, or anyone wanting to learn more about the history of the UK.

More fun than the text book!
Wish this had been the textbook in English Lit and English History. So much fun to read, and the illustrations are great!

For those who are daunted by 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire', this is a 'dip into' taste of history.
