Good product, great price.
Went to get one of these at a 'big box hardware' store. They had a Craftsman for a wee bit more than this was, but it was a red laser. Fine for indoors, but impossible to see outdoors. The green one they had was a Bosch for 3 times the price of this one. This one and the Craftsman look similar enough to believe they were made in the same factory. The self leveling is very nice. I needed to mark and cut 8 posts at exactly the same height on sloped terrain.I put it on a tripod I borrowed that has a bubble level. I shimmed the table and tripod to get everything pretty darned close to level. Then I let this self level and viola! The first picture shows the setup, but the second picture says it all. I couldn't really see it in bright daylight so I waited till a little darker out and as you can see, it was easy to mark every post at the exact same height. You can also see that the line is super clear at the other end of my yard, just in case I wanted to cut all the trees down at the same height as the posts! In case the instructions are difficult to decipher, the "On/Off" (power) button is ONLY used if you don't want self leveling. If you want to use self leveling then you use the "Lock/Unlock" switch, not the power switch. The power switch turns the unit on and off (and adjusts the brightness) with the Lock ON so that the beam can be at an angle. Unlocking the Lock also turns the beam on and releases the self leveling pendulum.I tried a few other methods that were problematic and may have been sort of close, but this let me make things way more precise than I needed, which is always a bonus.Highly recommend!

Best level in price class
This seriously bright level is very simple to use (though not the easiest) is quick to set up and ready to use out of the box. I bought this to help me with paving my backyard. The brightness of the level while used outdoor is awesome. The item arrived in a very nice package box. It comes with (current standard) a soft carrying case, a magnetic bracket, and batteries. The magnetic bracket works well but it is too early to tell if it would hold up with extensive use especially outdoor. It seems more for indoor use. I will post an update if this continues to hold up with outdoor use.The adjustable brightness is nice and easy to use but not so easy to tell if used outdoors since it utilizes one single button press to change brightness. It would be better if there was an indicator of brightness level. At 100% brightness and out on a sunny day, the brightness is probably good for more than 50 feet but since I have only used this for my backyard, I have not been able to verify how well it works at 100 feet. All in all, for this price, this is probably best in class (for a laser level ~$50 that is good for outdoor). As I was posting this review, there is an ongoing promotion for less than $50.

Solid item with the must-have green laser.
For the price, this laser level does the job for most DIY projects. After researching much higher priced name-brands, this item checked off most of the desired features--price, manual and self-leveling modes, a green, highly visible laser (more on that below), and a threaded base. The manual/locking function is a great feature not seen on the decently reviewed products in this price range.I hesitate to give five stars as the laser, especially the horizontal axis, is barely visible in outdoor, sunny conditions at only a few feet. I was attempting to use this product when installing new window shutters, but instead had to rely on measurements and an I-beam level, only. The laser obviously works better in indirect light. Not entirely surprised, but I was hoping for slightly better performance. But again, at this price, four stars may not be a fair assessment.Indoors, however, it is highly visible and crisp. The self-leveling feature works quickly and will blink when the module it is out of incline by more than four degrees--another useful feature.Overall, this product appears well-made, is accurate, has numerous, useful features, and comes at a price point (especially when combined with a promo code) that makes purchasing a higher end unit more difficult to justify as a non-professional, handyman.
