Tram® Scanner Mini-Magnet Antenna VHF/UHF/800MHz–1,300MHz with BNC-Male Connector

The Tram® Scanner Mini-Magnet Antenna VHF/UHF/800MHz–1,300MHz works great for me. I live in an apartment on the fourth floor. I do NOT have a vehicle so I put the antenna on the top of a cookie tin in the window. I ran a 15 foot RG316 Coaxial Coax Video Cable from the antenna to my BC125AT Scanner. Transmissions that were weak are now strong and others are coming in that I never heard before. I now receive transmissions from McGuire Air Force Base NJ Tower & planes on 118.950, 126.4750 and New Jersey Forest Fire Div B Central on 151.4750. Both Located about 35 miles from me in PA. I also get Police and Fire from Hunterdon County NJ about the same distance that I did not get previously.

works great! Repeaters pick this up from 30 miles out using a 10 watt Baofeng.

Been using extensively for a while. This antenna receives VHF and UHF wonderfully, more than quadrupling my receiving distance on my BCD436HP; however 800MHz DOES leave something to be desired. As noted, the coax has a higher loss on 800MHz which means the gain of the antenna is negated by the signal loss in the coax cable. GA State Police operate off of P25 VHF channels in the 154 and 155MHz range, and those come in better than ever, Aircraft are crystal clear, and UHF systems are receivable far better than even with a high gain directly connected whip. CB Bands are very poorly receptive; though on the highway that is almost preferred to me at times. The only real problem is the magnet mount, the glue melted in it and I'm having to re-glue it myself. Oh well. All and all for the price, four of five stars is worth it.

Thought the base would be bigger but it’s actually quite small. Regardless the magnet is quite strong, held on in 70+ mph driving. If yours doesn’t seem strong just take another magnet and rub them together and it will help the strength. Reception is much better as well. The stock antenna was alright for closer range, but with this antenna I can pick up much farther away. My scanner has svc band scanning and can easily pick up air traffic on this antenna. I mostly listen to rail traffic and pick up crews over a mile away as well as the dispatch. Only slight negative with this is the cable is a bit short to run through the truck completely hidden. It can be completely hidden but there’s not much left so the scanner needs to be placed farther back. Overall it’s really a good, low price extension for a small scanner.

Got this Oct of 2021. Has been on the vehicle and outside ever since. Signal has been excellent, using it with a Baofeng UV-5R. Today the magnetic base finally detached from the antenna where it was just held on by friction. After inspecting the inside of the antenna housing, I noticed the wiring was rusted, yet I noticed no obvious signs of signal interference. I cleaned it out as best I could and super-glued the magnet back on. It's time to replace it, but very good antenna for the price.

I'm no radio-ologist so keep that in mind. I got this for RTL-SDR exploration. The tiny whips that are standard on RTL-SDR dongles are a joke. The 'dipole kit' that comes with some 'better' RTL-SDR dongles almost met expectations. The TRAM 1089 connected to the same receivers is way way way better. This antenna met and exceeded my expectations in the first minute of use. I did not purchase for mobile use but the magnet is strong enough that I would have no concern @ 90MPH. I'm glad I sprung for it. So far I have it stuck to a ceiling vent indoors next to lots of electronic equip, and tuned... @ ~100MHz 'Broadcast FM' it works great. A $50 FM pole mounted outdoor antenna is off my wish list. @ 124MHz it pulls lots of aircraft. @ 160MHZ it pulls in some infrequent railroad traffic. @ 433MHz I detect all my stuff(thermometers) plus many neighbors. @ 915MHz it detects my weather station sensors. @ 915MHz it also detects about 100 smart meters in my neighborhood. (with "rtl_433") Based on my uneducated tests it does increase my reception at the intended frequencies. It's exactly what I neded and I haven't even put it outside yet! :)

I'm satisfied with this unit. It work good close to the source but for the far distance it's not anough. But i's still a good antenna.
