Norwich State Hospital

Gave this book to my father who worked at Norwich state hospital from 1973 until its closing. He saw a lot of familiar faces in the pictures. Would like to have had more current stories of the hospital, this book only covered the hospitals beginnings up until the 1980s and then it’s closing. Both my parents worked there and I found it very interesting to learn that the hospital was completely self sufficient in its heyday.

This is a must buy. It’s absolutely fantastic. The research is extensive, the pictures are superb. It really made me feel like I lived in the time that the hospital was full of life. Norwich State Hospital is an important part of our history and the author did a wonderful job bringing it back to life with the research and photos. She didn’t shy away from the bad times, and she didn’t turn it into a ghost story. She kept it accurate. I highly recommend getting yourself a copy and getting one as a gift as well. I know I did !

This book is a glimpse back into history and no person is better fitted to tell the story of the Norwich State Hospital than Christine Rockledge whose heart is with all the patients who ever lived at the NSH, including my mom Rose Falcone and sister Janice Lynn Falcone. I find it comforting that someone lovingly remembers the patients and staff at NSH and has written a beautiful book with photographs that will forever be enshrined in memory. Thank you Christine Rockledge.

This book is an amazing collection of photographs and history. Images of America is my favorite series of books. I love the format and the amount of history in these books. This book was very well thought out and is a great addition to anyones library. Whether you are a local or a lover of asylum history this book delivers and will not disappoint. Enjoy!!
