Calm Forest: Native American Flute Songbook

I read the book in 10 minutes. Then I went back and worked through the lessons. This has taken me months and I’m getting better. Enjoy the book and it’s honestly best on a screen where you can see images clearly. The music is beautiful with practice and the book is very helpful.

Easy to learn with this book because of the tablature images. It’s easier to learn compared to reading notes. The book starts of easy and as you go it progressively gets more challenging with the songs. I believe even if you are not musically talented in anyway like myself ypu can learn to play the Native American flute

Easy to follow and learn from.

Even though I have had a lifelong love of music my passion for playing musical instruments has only been for the last ten years. In my senior years I have learned to play numerous instruments such as the flute, recorder, hand drums, harmonica, and numerous percussion (Clave, Maracas, and Bongos etc.) musical instruments. I recently became interested in learning how to play the native American flute and sent for this very interesting 78 page soft cover book (Calm Forest: Native American Flute: Learn to play Native American Flute by Wojciech Usarzewicz and Flute Craft) which I purchased on Amazon. This book was written for beginners and intermediate players and even though I have some experience playing various kinds of flutes I found this book to be informative and easy to learn how to play the Native American kind of flute. This manual covers an introduction to the Native American Flute, music theory, the basic principles of playing the flute; the pentatonic scale up and down, improving your music. It also has various songs you can play with the Native American Flute. You can also check on line for some examples of this music. If you desire to learn the basic principles of playing the Native American Flute this may be a good book to begin your study. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Easy to learn how to play

If you are a total beginner, this book will get you started. It might be a challenge for the beginner who is accustomed to playing from Nakai Tablalture. It also might not be for a group who want to play together. Trying to use it in a group showed us how differently we all interpret the music and it took some work to come to a consensus on rhythm and ornamentation. If you want to play from the heart, but need a melody provided for you, this is the book you want. It leaves you free from the confines of written rhythm notation. The grouping of flute diagrams points you in the direction of rhythm, but you are not only free to make your own decisions, you have to. I like it very much. There are links provided so you can hear the songs played, but some of them are played very differently from what is written.

This is good for beginners. It’s got some decent flute melodies. One thing I don’t like is it’s laid out for 6-hole flutes. Mentally it’s hard to ignore that 6th hole so I ended up using white-out to eliminate it so I could play these with my 5-hole flute. Also, the songs are available on the internet but the link included in the book is long to type and not very accessible. So the whole thing is a bit awkward. Not bad. But I wouldn’t buy it again. Just my 2 cents. It’s just ok.

I’m not a beginner but this book would suit an absolute beginner as a more experienced player. Good selection of tunes, YouTube references to hear the tunes in their original form. Very easy to follow, no western music notation so you don’t have to read music to play. Pictures of fingering very easy to follow/learn. Excellent book for Native American Flute playing.

Après avoir reçu ce livre plus tôt que prévu, il m'est difficile de cacher ma joie. Avec une tablature clair et facilement compréhensible pour les débutants comme moi, ce bouquin est une véritable oasis . Je commençais à déséspérer de ne pas trouver de véritable ouvrage me permettant d'apprendre à jouer de cet instrument sans avoir à prendre des cours de solfège ou de copier d'autres musiciens sur youtube. Je le recommande à tous ceux qui souhaitent se lancer dans la flute native!

As a learner I found this book so helpful. It comes with pictures on where to put your fingers and how to make different sounds by changing finger positioning. I did like how it starts off very simple and then progresses to harder songs. I have learnt how to do the scale and now moving on to my first little song. I would highly recommend any first timers with this book it’s terrific.
