Perfect for medium-to-small dogs, and much better looking than "wire" pet fences
This gate was exactly what I was looking for. It is attractive and functional, and easy to use once a couple (very) minor setup issues were solved. I am not sure I would trust it to hold back medium to large dogs, but we have three terriers that are adequately contained with this gate. The gate is easy to open either direction, and locks securely. Some reviews from users stated that the "locking" mechanism doesn't work. I had that problem at first, but I discovered that it was an adjustment that was easily made. The gate "lock" is actually a small plastic spring-loaded pin that slides into the stationary part of the gate. If the center of the gate is up too high, the pin won't reach the other part of the gate, and therefore won't work. The solution was to adjust the height of the center of the gate with the provided height adjustment "foot" (screws in), and the middle of the gate sags just enough to have the pins connect and the gate lock work perfectly. There is also one of the spring-loaded pins at the bottom of the door, so that the gate is locked from the top and bottom securely. The only other thing I had to adjust was the provided stand feet. Since thi gate was being used in a location that I could not use the feet on both sides, I had to put the feet on on only one side selectively and have part of the gate held upright by furniture (between the couch and the wall. Again, I might not trust that a large enough dog could knock this over, but smaller dogs cannot (and mine have tried!).

I love the gate looks really nice and keeps my dog out of the living room. First one was broken...well wood cracked and they responded very quickly and had replacement next day.

Please don’t waste your money :(
Update: Not even the end of February and it already fell apart. Please don’t waste your money!**********************Very pretty. Perfect for our space at bottom of stairs. Does not hold up for daily use - I really wanted to love this gorgeous gate :( Looks beautiful, just don’t use it because the joints and connectors are intricate and fragile. Not worth the money.

Very sturdy and wide!
This is a great free standing gate. We use ours at the bottom of the landing at our steps. Gives us room to step off the last step and very sturdy.Would highly recommend this.

Looks nice, but won't contain a dog and breaks easily
The gate looks nice, was the right size and we could walk through. Flaws were immediately obvious. The wood was thinner than expected making it lightweight and the dog could slide it with a single paw. The gate never locked and swung freely, but I wrapped a bottom support with brown vet wrap and that created some friction to keep the door from swinging. I thought of sending it back because it was so flimsy, but I kept it because wanted it to block a french door in my office to protect the door frame from paws trying to catch the leaf blower yard guys when they surprised us. I didn't need it to contain the dog. Today I barely bumped the gate coming through the doorway and the entire leg broke off (the wood split). In retrospect I should have sent it back once I saw how poorly it was made. Buy something else.

Good Quality
The legs should be heavier to hold down the gate better. Once you adjust the sides, if you pick the gate up it releases and you have to reset the sides again. Other than that, it is well made, the wood color is versatile for any home décor and the gate is easy to open. The instructions were ok - once I laid everything out - it was pretty easy to figure out how to assemble without needing the instructions. I use it for training puppies. It worked well until they got bigger and can move the whole gate. The middle opening / closing gate part is well secure and easy to open and shut without being flimsy. It latches closed and is secure. If you want the gate open and leave the rest of the gate where it's at - you can have the gate inward or outward and it stays in position very nicely (unless it gets bumped into when they play). But training them about barriers will work well!! If you have the gate on carpet or use it straight (without having the sides at an angle) it is ok but not as sturdy as having the sides at an angle. If you have it on vinyl or tile, it does skid a bit. If you have it on textured vinyl or tile it wobbles a little. I would have given this a 5 star rating if the legs were a bit heavier, longer or kept the gate more sturdy. The price was a bit expensive, but the gate served it's purpose.

Pleasantly surprised
I wasn't really expecting this to do as well as it did. It was well packaged and worked easily. I did take advantage of some of the fine tuning to get the door to fit just right and it did great. I tried a friction fit gate in the past and the dog just pushed it right down. I ended up drilling the anchors into the doorway and it did fine but this time one side is custom cabinets and I did not want to drill anything into them. I honestly didn't think that this gate would hold up to a 20# puppy that wanted out. I am so pleased at how sturdy it was and how well it held still. The hinge on one side was pretty finicky and would sometimes not lock but if you just played with it a little you could get it to hold. I would definitely buy this again.
