PERFECT for long haired cats, along with a set of basic tools such as brush and comb.I had never seen one before, but it helped me clean mats off my cat's back that had been there for YEARS. Must be used carefully and with patience, since it can still cause a lot of tugging and pain if used incorrectly. Sometimes you just have to cut a mat out completely instead of trying to use this tool to separate it. It's better to have clump of fur missing than to cause the cat extreme pain, but in most cases this tool will separate tangles marvelously. I’ve had several pet brushes. From the furmenator, wide tooth, combo jobs. We have a an English cocker spaniel and cat. The wide tooth comb was ok, but you know you have pets ALL the time with it.I received this today. I pulled it out and decided to give the dog a bit of brushing. Me... la de da.. WOAH! I’ve pulled off half my dog and cloned him and NO tangling or pulling. My dog is just sitting here letting me brush him.Well, with that kind of magic, I proceeded to brush the cat. And the same magic happened! She wasn’t squirming, meowing, trying to get away! I got a Furminator a while ago and it always felt like it pulled my dogs' long hair, even though it did remove some of the under coat. Plus, my dogs weren't pleased with me using it on them either. I read up on grooming for goldens and, come to find out, Furminators are not recommended because they actually strip the hairs and ruin their coat. Makes sense because this is how it felt when I used it on mine. So I did a lot of research and found this Undercoat Rake. Just by looking at it, I didn't think that it could do much but I read the reviews and saw some of the photos and thought I'd give it a chance. I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!! It takes so much more of the undercoat out than the Furminator ever did and my dogs love when I use it on them. I am actually going to buy another one so I have a back-up just in case because I never want to be without one again. This undercoat rake is actually really solid and well made. It feels like it's going to last forever. I put a lot of stock into the reviews I read about products so I wanted to make sure that I included one for this - because I rarely write any reviews. Seriously, get one. You will not be disappointed. It's amazing.
