Whats the actual difference functionally aside from them coming in a black plastic tray instead of a clear one? Why not just buy more batteries?

That is a very good question. I have found the Optimum batteries function better than the standard version of the same Duracell batteries. I have also found that they last longer and perform better.

Exactly how many batteries will l receive at this price? The description states both 12 and 18 count.

Even though I selected 18, they only sent 12. It should be 18 since there is a cheaper option to get 12 and I selected 18. They say they will send the right one at no extra charge, but it is a hassle that I have to return the dozen batteries. I make the extra effort to return the batteries anyway because I don't want to support what I believe is deceptive advertising. I hope that when I receive the next pack, it is really 18 and not a dozen again.

For a Battery with an alleged shelf life of 10 years where is the expiration date located?

According to Duracell site, the Duracell Optimum batteries have a shelf life of 12 yrs. The ones I just received have mfr date of 2021 so even though just received in 2023 they should be good for approx 10 yrs.

Will this product damage clothes?

This, like all batteries, contains battery acid. Battery acid damages fabrics. However leaking battery acid in your clothes may be the least concerning thing about your at it you happen to be wearing said clothes. Batteries may be one of our oldest forms of carrying stored energybabout, but practicing safe battery ownership is always good. Not just for your clothes. As If rather the battery or its acid didn't damage YOU.
