no need to wash hair. you can put on dry hair. dry hair first before putting hair gel on. the lightening works with the heat of the hair dryer or the sun.

will this cover gray hair?

I have used these products for decades with great results. I will be 85 next month and still have mainly blonde hair from just the shampoo. I have used the lightening spray, but not for a year or so. Covers most of my grey, and brightens the rest.

Hi will this brighten/lighten highlights?

I'm not sure, as I do not have any highlights. It does not radically lighten natural color, which is nice.
