I have pretty bad arthritis in my hands and lighter would be better.** A: You can use light weight paper for temporary writing-- notes you don't plane to keep for any length of time or for just practice. However, for more substantial writing--letters that will be mailed, school work, etc. it is best to use cardstock weight or braille paper--which is desigend to hold the dots and withstand erasures. Something that is inbetween that may be your solution. I have had students use scrapbook paper because it comes in different patterns and colors. It is not as thick or as tiresome on the hands. **Q: What material is this made out of** A: It’s made out of plastic- **Q: Can this write on both sides of a page, (interline/interpoint braille)?** A: Only on one side **Q: Can a large stylus be used with this slate to make reading easier for a small child?** A: Don't change the size of the dots. You child may need the intensity changed instead--or how high the dots stick out. You will change how a word looks and feels and make reading more difficult and unrealistic. The child will not find bigger dots in the real world. Make sure the child is not pressing the fingertips down hard or 'scrubbing' as that makes dot configurations harder to determine. Instead, a very light touch on the pads of the fingers makes braille reading easier. I'm always telling my students "touch softly." This slate is however made for A4 size Braille paper, which is not a problem because this size paper can be easily purchased online from braillepaper.com/product-tag/a4-braille-paper/. The fact that each slate comes with one green and one red stylus is a plus, the colors do not matter, but having two of them come with the slate is convenient. I am a sighted student of Braille, so the stylus and slate is a convenient way to Braille a letter to blind friends. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great *by on Reviewed in the United States July 13, 2019* I work with disabled teenage orphans in China. One of my students was blind, but had never been taught braille (Chinese or English), so I purchased some braille items in the States to take back and start teaching her. This was one of them. The staff at her foster home eventually (after a lot of coaxing) began working with her and teaching her Chinese braille. They loved this stylus. They apparently tried to find some other styluses afterwards, as they wanted more than one, but couldn't find anything that worked nearly as well on the internet in China.
