Block Print: Everything you need to know for printing with lino blocks, rubber blocks, foam sheets, and stamp sets Review: Seeing others approach spurs new ideas - This is a great book by Andrea Lauren. As with any inspirational book, this opened my eyes to the use of new materials and ways to use them. Lauren did not use oil based inks at all, for which I'm grateful. The use of water soluble inks eliminates a lot of mess and toxic exposure. Tools, inks, papers, etc. are addressed in the first pages. This is no-fuss printing so no need for a press. The prints are hand rubbed only. Along the way, the author adds advisory notations, such as the reminder to picture your image in the final stage when planning your work. Make sure your original image is reversed to the block. Experienced artists can make this simple mistake as easily as a beginner. The artist is generous in explaining her approach and techniques which makes all the difference. The book ends with a sampling of prints from other printmakers. Block Print is full of photos that stir the urge to grab a sketch book and put some ideas on the page and then get carving! Review: So much to love! - Do you like beautiful images? Do you want to learn how to create them? This is the book for you! There are easy-to-follow instructions, tool recommendations, and ideas galore throughout the book. Easy to understand, practical tips, yummy photography, and plenty of encouragement make this a definite must-have for any inspiring printer!
