Cat is very happy with this purchase
The old scratching post I had was falling apart and my cat ripped out a nail using it, which caused me to panic for weeks on end as it grew back. I didn't want to buy a post from a pet store as I know they are quite overpriced for what they are. While this is close to $70, I am absolutely impressed and will definitely purchase in the future if it needs to be replaced.PROS+ Nearly 3 feet tall. My cat is 27" long so this is perfect for her and she doesn't have to *stoop* to scratch+ Good quality material -- much better than the carpet/rug fabric that is on most cat furniture; I expect that this twine-like fabric will stand the test of time, and claws, much better than it's predecessor did+ Relatively easy to assemble; instructions are easy to follow; all parts included in the packaging+ Cat went at it immediately!+ There is a place for her to sit her fluffy ass and survey the kingdom she governs+ Said sitting spot also comes with a toy attached for added playtime fun+ The piece is much nicer to look at than the previous post we owned, in particular, due to the "hardwood" base that makes it look stylish and sleekCONS:- During assembly one of the screws wouldn't go into its corresponding hole very easily, so my partner and I spent several minutes trying to widen the hole/fit the screw in. Eventually, we managed to get the screw all the way down into the hole, thus securing the base. I assume that this difficulty was a one-off production error and don't expect it is an issue with this product in general.

Great product but for one minor detail
This is exactly as I hoped it would be, attractive, tall, sturdy, and my cat went right for it. It was easy to put together and I was impressed by the heavy-duty hardware that was provided. The only thing keeping it from earning that last star was the fact that the base is smooth, laminated, wood and when my cat was reaching up to get a good scratch going her bottom was sliding all over the base. I didn't want that to deter her from using it so within minutes of setup I was searching for something to cover the slippery base. Now it has an old scratch mat held on by duct tape (UGLY!) covering the bottom so the cats can get a purchase and get that good scratch without feeling insecure. I will be buying another one for another room of my house but I will be looking for a mat or something I can fit to the bottom of it as soon as it is out of the box.

A major hit with my kitten
it is only day one but it has been such a success, that I am sure this is going to be a good fit.I was in the middle of assembling it, just about to attach the top to it when my 10 week old Ragdoll kitten started attacking it and climbing it LOLIt comes with catnip spray, but I have had no need to use it, she loves this thing and has already played on it quite a lot.The ball dangling from the top is obviously a major drama, and she has enjoyed sitting on the top of it.I like that it is wider around than I was expecting, and it’s around service is beneficial. With the previous cat I once bought the ultimate cat scratching post which is around the same price and is much better now on. I actually like this one much better. The ultimate scratching post is nice too, but the top of it is just wood, so my cat never sat on it. It also the post I believe is more square rather than around. Which might not matter for most cats but my kitten was having a lot of fun going around and around the post hugging her body against it and that would’ve been harder to do with it had corners.I have no doubt that the ball will not stay attached to it for very long, but I with the previous cat I want spot the ultimate cat scratching post which is around the same price and is much better now on. Fabulous product!
I bought this cat scratching post for its height, sisal carpet (vs standard carpet) and its base stability. I have a big boy - 14 pounds, part Burmese - the proverbial brick in a fur coat, and 12 years old. I felt, especially given that he is aging, he needed a much better full body stretch when he scratched than the other three (lower height) scratching posts in the house. For three weeks he avoided it, even though I had liberally sprinkled cat nip on the sisal and around the base. I put all of the other posts aside out of his reach hoping for the best. And, then, like magic, he adopted it! The other three posts have now been removed and he's on this one exclusively. Thinking about getting a 2nd one for upstairs.

Super sturdy.
My 7 month old kitten loves this post. He climbs up it like a tree and there is no worry of it tipping. He liked the ball attached to the post until his nail got caught in it. He screamed like a baby and I had to cut the ball off in order to get his nail out. Otherwise he loves the post but I do not love the price. I found it a little high considering the quality.
