A very interesting and funny read

Simon Cowell ist in unseren Breiten vielleicht noch nicht soooo bekannt, wie er es in der englischsprachigen Welt ist, aber er sollte es auf jeden Fall werden. Wenn nicht für seine TV-Shows "The X-Factor" und "Britain's got Talent", dann für seinen einfach köstlichen Sinn für Humor.Das Buch "I don't mean to be rude, but..." erzählt von Cowell's Leben, seiner Kinder- und Schulzeit, seinen zunächst schwierigen Anfängen im Berufsleben und dann fortsetzend von seinen Erfolgen und seinem steilen Weg nach oben. Es endet mit seiner Stellungsnahme zu den ersten Staffeln von "Amerika's got Talent" und seinen Gedanken über die einzelnen Kandidaten.Es behandelt keinen seiner Lebensabschnitte ins Detail und es wird niemals gelangweilt, sondern Cowell erzählt quasi eine Zusammenfassung der wichtigsten Eckdaten seines Lebens und fügt einzelne, interessante Geschichten mit ein.Abgesehen davon, dass es "normale" Menschen einfach interessiert, wie ein anderer "Normalo" es schaffen konnte, einer der reichsten Menschen Großbritaniens zu werden, liegt der Reiz dieses Buches einfach am Schreibstil Cowell's (ob nun seinem eigenen oder einem Ghostwriter sei einmal dahin gestellt, man weiß ja nie) und am Witz des Buches!Es trieft nur so vor Sarkasmus und Ironie und auch wenn Cowell nie vergisst sich selbst zu loben, vergisst er auch nicht, sich selbst zu kritisieren.Also ich fand das Buch sehr amüsant. Nicht tiefgehend oder literarisch wertvoll, aber schlicht und einfach amüsant und witzig. Also wer sich für Simon interessiert und auch solchen, die es vielleicht (noch) nicht tun, kann ich das Buch nur empfehlen! A fun read!

I really enjoyed this book. I respect Simon's opinions and he certainly knows the music business in and out. If you plan on auditioning or going into the music business this information would be very helpful to you. You should absorb every single criticism and word of encouragement that comes out of his mouth and then you may just succeed.I mainly wanted to read the book because I have such great respect for Simon as a no nonsense type of guy who arrived at his trade the hard way, all the time knowing exactly nothing but the TOP would be good enough for him. He never quit he just kept right on forging ahead. I admit that I found out way more about the music business than I cared to know but the book was a good read. I have to give him such respect for suffering through all of those auditions which obviously were very painful. He is absolutely right! Having watched the auditions myself on tv. For each one who can sing and has talent worth pursuing there are hundreds and thousands which are completely deluded and fooling themselves or else they think it's funny to make complete fools of themselves before the whole world. Or maybe they just want to be on TV. I suggest they just sit on top of their own and forget the rest.

There was too much detail on the people Simon supported and not enough about him in particular the influence his parents had on his future success ans how losing both of them left a huge void in his life. His father would have been so very proud at the man he became and how he finally found happiness and had a wonderful son

I thought this was a quick and easy read. Simon's writings are funny and enjoyable. Also gave some good behind the scenes background.
