Nice kitchen addition and easy to use.
The unit is quiet in operation but not silent. Very tolerable for me. The cord is only 2 feet long and I would like it better if it was longer, especially since the excess stores in the base out of the way. The freezer bowl is not dishwasher safe, but the parts are so simple to clean I don't mind at all. After a quick wash I popped the freezer bowl in my freezer overnight. It's 6 inches tall by 7 in diameter, so it fit easily. The next afternoon I mixed 1 1/2 cups coconut cream with 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 cup toasted shredded coconut in my blender and pulsed it a few times to break down the coconut a little bit. Then I took the bowl out of the freezer, placed it on the base, put the paddle in place, then the cover. I turned it on and poured my mix in through the top. 15 min later it was ready to transfer to a tub and into the freezer. Delicious. Very simple and quick. My next batch was vanilla from a creme anglaise base. It took longer to freeze, 30 minutes, and came out very smooth and creamy. Since then chocolate and strawberry. I'm very happy with the machine so far; quiet and quick. Easy to clean. I'm careful to use silicone or wooden spoons and paddles with the freezer bowl to avoid scratching it and it's holding up well. I haven't used it for ices yet but I don't think it will have any problem with them, the motor is powerful and the paddle seems strong enough. I'll try to remember to update when I do or if any trouble starts. *Thai basil and lime granita yesterday. Yum The machine took it to 95%done: it reached a point where there was a slush ball that rode the mixing paddle (without mixing) and an unfrozen sugar syrup filling the gap, so it was time to dump out into a shallow Pyrex dish to finish freezing. From there I just scraped servings from the top. Very nice on a sunny day. Oh, and I whirred some canned peaches in light syrup, straight out of the can, in the blender to break them down, then into the ice cream machine: Peach and Champagne floats on Easter. I love this machine.

Serious Ice Cream Lover
I’m obsessed with this machine! I’ve made at least 15 batches, if not more, of ice cream and not stopping! The ice cream is everything I’ve been searching for in the stores but waaaay better. The machine churns out light and creamy ice cream each time. I have a hard time processing store bought ice cream due to all the extras but I’m able to fully process this and I don’t feel gross after eating it. The machine is super easy and quick to use. The hardest part of waiting for it to freeze! I make a batch of custard/batter the night before then pop it into the machine in the morning so I have ice cream for dessert at night. The instruction book is super helpful and I recommend freezing the bowl overnight; I tried a batch in the morning and then at night and it didn’t work. The batch at night was still liquid. I found that if you chill a batch in the freezer for 1 to 2hrs it’s helpful with churning. It’s really best to have all your ingredients super cold when they go into the freezer bowl for optimal amount of ice cream. The custard/batter should grow in size (see chocolate image) and takes about 15 minutes to churn in the machine depending on how cold the ingredients are. I prefer the recipes in the book to what I find online as they don’t have a ton of extra stuff in them and they’re easy to modify to your liking. Definitely buy this, you won’t regret it! I made a variety of ice cream flavors when my family was in town and my uncle is buying one for his brother and my aunt is buying one for her husband, my uncle! I’m so happy I bought this and wish I bought one years ago!

Having this machine is wonderful because you have full control over the ingredients and can make ice cream the way you want.
I read the reviews carefully before selecting this machine. My machine arrived in perfect condition and sooner than expected. I cleaned the drum and put it in the freezer 24 hours. It was frozen solid when I used it and my ice cream came out perfect. My husband couldn't quit raving about it and how much better it tasted than store bought! It was rated highly but there were some one star ratings that said it wasn't powerful enough to thicken the ice cream and because the drum did not get cold enough to freeze the ice cream. Churning Issues I believe that people complaining that it is not powerful enough to churn the ice cream should revisit their recipe. I found that when I put too much heavy whipping cream into the mix, it thickens really quickly and machine seems to be straining. When I used the proper mix of heavy whipping cream and milk, I didn't have that problem and the ice cream came out nice and smooth. Also, every ice cream maker creates a soft serve type consistency. If you want it to firm up, you need to dip it out of the drum and put it in the freezer for an hour or so. Also don't put bits of fruit or nuts into the churning mixture. Wait until after the ice cream is finished then fold that in my hand after you empty it into a bowl. The chunks will get caught between the paddle and drum and cause problems if you add them during the churn. Chunks are meant to be added later. Drum Problems You cannot submerge the drum in water. I clearly says so in the manual. If you can't read the small print, Google Cuisinart ICE-21 Manual and download the pdf for this unit. I did that and it was way easier to read. I put mine in the freezer in the upright position for 24 hours before using it the first time. After you churn ice cream you will a medium to thick layer of ice cream welded to the interior of the drum. DO NOT scrape it out with metal utensils. I just cover mine with a paper towel and after about 15-20 minutes I scrape the sides with a soft pliable spatula. Do not scratch the interior, it will cause problems later. Also do not put the drum back into the freezer until it thaws completely out. After waiting the 15-20 and scrapping the inside, I take my drum to the sink and spray it out with warm water, being careful not to submerge it or scratch it. I dry it out with a paper towel and sit it on my counter in the upright position to finish thawing out. Then I wipe off the excess condensation from the inside and outside and put it back in the freezer in the upright position.

Easy to use and clean
Great machine! The bowl stays in the freezer. It's super easy to use and clean. If your ingredients are chilled before use, it makes a hard enough to scoop ice cream in less than 20 minutes. If your ingredients are a little warm (like if you're tempering eggs and are inpatient and just dump your mixture in without putting it in the fridge to cool first), it will make a thicker soft serve ice cream. The bowl is so cold and it doesn't take long at all to make, that I've been able to make 2 batches of hard set plus a batch of mostly hard set ice cream one right after another before putting the bowl back in the freezer. I thought if it was too much of a pain to use, I'd just give in and buy one with a built in compressor, but this one works well and I found there's no need. I'd buy it again.

So far, so good.
Update: I tried to use this ice cream maker a few days ago and it wouldn't freeze my recipe. Since other items in freezer were frozen, I assumed the freezer bowl had stopped working so I posted a negative portion to my review. When I buy a pound of bacon, I roll each slice like a jelly roll and freeze the rolls. They don't take up so much room that way and they thaw in a couple minutes. So I put a tray of rolled bacon in the freezer and it didn't freeze. True bacon has a high fat content but in a zero degrees freezer, the bacon should freeze. So on Amazon I hopped and bought two fridg/freezer thermometers to check the temp in my freezer. I wanted two so that if they were near the same temp then I'd feel they were working okay (then I'd have one for the fridge). I bought these: amazon.com/gp/product/B071F5MD27/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't know why this doesn't appear as a link like they usually do but the item # is B071F5MD27 Turns out my freezer had warmed up to 21 degrees according to one themometer and 22 to the other (I can live with a one degree difference since it isn't possible to put both thermometers in the same exact location in freezer). The story continues but I won't bore you all with additional details but once properly frozen the ice cream maker bowl did work (I made a bowl while ago). So I deleted that negative portion of my review and now assure readers that I'm back to supporting my original review below. Should I actually have any additional problems with this maker, I'll come back. I do recommend checking temps in freezers/fridgs since had I not put the bacon in the freezer, frozen food would have stayed frozen but the freezer wasn't cold enough to freeze certain items like bacon or this ice cream maker bowl. Original review: I've owned this Cuisinart ICE-21PK Frozen-Yogurt, Ice Cream maker long enough to have made a half dozen quarts of ice cream. Since I'm the only person eating it, that is a lot of ice cream, I'm thinking!! There is a lot to like about this little freezer and topping that list is that I know what is going into the ice cream. And even using quality ingredients, it is cost efficient especially since I bought organic ice cream which is a lot more than regular ice cream. I've made vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and various fruit ice creams using the recipe book that comes with the freezer. For the fruit ice creams, I simply add a berry mix (for example) in the same amount as strawberries are called for in that ice cream recipe. So far, all have turned out firmly frozen and they stayed frozen until eaten but not so hard frozen one has to chisel it out of the container! I already owned the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream book and the only difference in the basic recipes for the ice cream maker is that Ben & Jerry's calls for whole eggs and the Cuisinart recipes do not. I looked up a peach ice cream recipe on-line and that recipe called for two egg yolks. I intend to add eggs to the next batch and if they make a great difference I'll post about that later but I imagine the eggs just add extra texture but can be left out if one has qualms about eating raw egg. All my ice creams have been super great without the egg. Keep in mind however that most bacteria, etc. will not survive freezing. I purchased the smaller quart & a half size since that makes 5 cups which will last me for a few days. I also wanted the pink freezer since it looks like ice cream! The round circular part seen in the photo has to be frozen for 24 hours before use so if one does not have a freezer, one will need to set aside that much space in their refrigerator freezer for that period. I have an upright freezer so as soon as I clean mine up from freezing a batch, I just put it back in the freezer and it stays there until I use it again. Clean-up is a breeze. Instructions for use are well explained and are simple. Two minutes and the ice cream is churning away. Mine usually freezes in 15 minutes. This is a great little ice cream maker and I'm so glad to own it. I love the ice cream I make especially since I know it is healthy, at least for a sugared item :))

no need to buy protein ice cream anymore
So I had gastric bypass a few months ago, and I miss ice cream. I have tried sugar free ice creams from the store, but they are too sweet and rather gross. The new "low cal no guilt" ones like Halo and whatnot either have weird tastes, weird consistencies or do a number on my intestines from the artificial sweeteners. I found this model when searching for recipes online, and it was recommended. I was going to try to make chocolate ice cream from the recipe, but didn't have an cocoa powder in my cupboard after all. So I decided to riff on the recipe I found and make a coffee protein ice cream. Let me tell you, best invention ever. I froze the bowl on the shelf in my side by side, directly under the ice maker for a couple of days. in my kitchen aide mixer, I combined 2% plain greek yogurt, 2% milk, vanilla bean extract, culinary coconut milk, micro ground powdered instant coffee, xanthan gum (recommended to improve consistency) and swerve artificial sweetener (confectioner sugar consistency). I did find that I made it a touch too sweet, due to the mix not tasting as sweet as it did when it was finished. I didn't even follow the direction exactly correctly on the mixer, as you are supposed to pour it in after its already spinning, but I had just put it in the bowl. loudness- I didn't find it especially loud, not any louder than any mixer, and maybe a little quieter. I did use a spatula to scrape the sides from time to time. I read someone smears it on the sides and I can see that would improve the hardness. I bought the recommended plastic container that goes with this and put my ice cream in that. Husband tried it and even liked it, and he is super picky when it comes to healthy treats. I am looking forward to trying other flavors and playing with adding more protein options to it. I don't see why using one of my protein drinks as the milk base wouldn't work. This seems like a great purchase for experimenting with flavor options for healthy alternatives, and would be super fun to do with kids. It couldn't be any easier to operate. It's very inexpensive compared to all the other ice cream makers out there, and doesn't require any special ingredients to operate. I don't see why it wouldn't make frozen custard or yogurt or any other frozen treat you wanted to try. Highly recommend this model if you are interested in experimenting with frozen treats!

Amazing!!
This thing is GREAT!!! Used it for the first time this evening and was really impressed. Super simple to use, I used a FroYo mix and milk. If you follow the instructions, you will have a tasty frozen treat in less than 20 minutes. It's quiet and easy to clean. Takes about the same amount of space as a coffee maker and is not real heavy to move. The instructions come with a ton of recipes and I'm looking forward to trying them. I was also pleased with the amount of one batch: my husband and I each had a generous serving and there was a lot left for tomorrow night. I'm really glad I bought it.

Great for amazing tasting ice cream!
I love making homemade ice cream, and this machine does it perfectly every time! The noise is pretty loud, but I have ice cream done in a few minutes, so I don’t mind so much. The only thing I would mention is that ice-y desserts like sorbet and frozen yogurt are much harder to clean and get all the dessert out than creamier desserts. The more water-based products tend to not work quite as well, but the ice cream is fabulous!

Very simple to use with minimal clean-up
Soooooo CUTE! This makes way too much icecream for just myself and my daughter but we are newbies to the artisanal icecream world. We assembled the freezing cold inner tube thing with the lid and the churned, Pulled a can of coconut milk from the fridge and shook it up, added a splash of vanilla, a pinch of salt and some maple syrip, and 10 minutes later we had delicious homemade icecream. Honestly this is a dream - I’m looking forward to trying new recipes and having a healthier special treat while making memories with my LO. In terms of cleaning since there are only 4 parts to the whole unit it’s quite simple. I was able to rinse and wash the paddle immediately and let the inner tube soak, but in hindsight I could have boiled water to just get it over with lol. Anyway it’s a nice treat and I will consider getting an official “spare icecream” tub rather than our empty Yogurt container 😅.

Worked Ok the One Time I Use It
Know how sometimes you really want something and think you’ll use it all time and then you pull the trigger and buy it ... and end up using it once? Yeah, this. That part is on me. Part of the neglect of use is that the bowl takes up a lot of room in my freezer. Part of it is that I was pretty unimpressed with the coconut milk ice cream. It was super hard and icy. Was hoping to save money over buying pricy non-dairy frozen treats. Lol, joke’s on me.

A great addition to our kitchen
it is built well and functions as expected, plus I mean the colour, who doesn't love hot pink. If this one ever breaks I would happily purchase again. We even use the frozen base to store drinks in for events by freezing it and filling it with ice because it stays cool for so long.

LOVE this ice cream maker!
I'm so happy with my choice of ice cream maker. So far I've made the most AMAZING ice creams (rum with salted caramel swirl, strawberry ice cream, my ultimate fav. ice cream which is licorice (to die for!), and passion fruit mango sorbet which was also killer. Takes about 20 minutes for the ice cream to thicken then just pop it in a container and in the freezer. Highly recommend this awesome machine. Love the pink color too.
