An Affordable Bike Carrier That Gets the Job Done!
I bought this item from Amazon used and I’m glad. It’s not an item I wanted to invest a ton of money in, so the price point for the used option was great for me. I needed something to get my bike from point A to B that didn’t require me to flatten my seats and get my car dirty but it is hard to find a bike carrier for hitch vehicles that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Thank you Allen for making this economical option! Now I can take my bike to parks or the suburbs and ride whenever I want to. I was scared to drive with it thinking the bike would fall off. The owner of the bike shop who serviced my bike helped me correctly install this carrier and I posted pictures so you can see exactly how it’s supposed to sit on a vehicle like mine (2019 mercedes glc 300). Apparently the carrier’s rubber “feet” should NOT sit on the glass and the clips must attach under the vehicle. Initially, I was putting the clips on the hitch door under the license plate. Once you have the hooks securely in, tighten the straps. My bike didn’t budge during the ride!

The Allen Sports compact folding rack fits inside a backpack! But please make sure to wrap the pedals. It will scratch your car.
Allen Sports Ultra Compact Folding 1-Bike Trunk Mount Rack Cheapskates, Rejoice! This bicycle rack is a lifesaver for cheapskates who refuse to pay for parking. Yes, I am a cheapskate. I admit it freely. I purchased my Allen Sports rack in 2014 and I depend on it every day for running errands around Honolulu. In case you didn’t know, the cost of parking is obscenely exorbitant in Honolulu, Hawaii. I rejoice in knowing that I spent only $32 on this rack and now my parking is free while everyone else is forced to feed their parking meters at $1.50 an hour. Five years ago, I worked in downtown Honolulu and I paid $300 a month to park in a garage near work. I literally could have saved thousands of dollars. Perfect for College Students I bought an Allen Sports rack for a friend who goes to college at the University of Hawaii, which is a commuter college in Honolulu. She, too, is a cheapskate who refuses to pay for parking. At the university, parking is more than $400 per year. Instead of paying that amount, she simply parks a few miles away in a residential area, unhooks her Schwinn and glides into campus. She is happy that she’s getting daily cardio exercise while saving money on annual parking fees. Where did she learn this money saving technique? Of course, she learned from the master of cheapness. Me. But Does it Work? Yes, the Allen Sports compact folding rack delivers on its many promises. It folds down easily and fits inside a backpack. In my experience, it fits a variety of cars. I’ve mounted the rack on a 2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013 Toyota Camry and a 2010 Honda Pilot. The padded legs are gentle on my car and do not leave scratches or marks. (That is very important to me.) There is one problem though. Although the rack does indeed “keep the bicycle secure” it does not keep it 100 percent separate from the vehicle. Every time I mount my Schwinn, there’s always one pedal that tends to rub up against my car and scratch the heck out of my paint job. Of course, now I prevent that from happening by wrapping that pedal in a t-shirt and securing it with a heavy duty rubber band. However, it’s a little disappointing that I’m forced to do that. I have to admit that I should have taken that precaution from day one. But when you’re late for work and you’re rushing to install this rack, stuff like that happens. I’m not going to blame Allen Sports. Like I said earlier, I am saving tons of money while everyone else is wasting theirs on parking garages. I guess I can spend some of that money repairing those ugly scratches. (I know that sounds ludicrous.) Take my advice and wrap that bicycle pedal well. Take the time to do it, and you’ll have zero problems. Would I purchase this rack again? Yes, in a heartbeat.

Nice little bike rack for under $100
If you’re on a budget and don’t feel like bolting or welding a trailer hitch to your car this is a very good alternative. It’s a strong bike rack and it’s under $100 so if you’re on a budget, this is the way to go. BE SURE to add a center strap tiedown or ratchet strap to the center thru the wheels , around the crank and around the bike rack (see pic), otherwise your wheels will move, and the bike will not be as stable.

Broken strap knuckle
Used it a dozen times, no more. Today, the top strap buckle shattered and broke creating a very dangerous situation while driving on the road. Don't even know how to contact seller to see if I can buy a new top strap, given the item itself was $120 !!!!

Compact, stable, not lightweight; allows for flexible planning
My fiance has a small sedan. A couple years ago, she paid $200 to get a small trailer hitch welded onto her car and another $100 to get a hitch-mounted bike rack for our bikes. We took it on a road trip and the thing wobbles so much that you keep expecting it to fall right off despite the fact that the connections are securely fastened. To top it off, that rack folds down to "only" 1' x 3' by 3' (not exactly compact for storage), and takes about ten minutes to fully set up or take down each use. By contrast, I just bought this bike rack for under $50. It fits snugly onto the back of my Mazda hatchback, and the bike clearly isn't going anywhere. The top and bottom straps tighten down to anchor the rack, and the side straps tighten to secure any side-to-side wobble. There does seem to be an excess of strap length, but I've used that excess to my advantage, tying it around the handlebars to prevent random movement there as well. It still takes about five minutes to set up or take down, but that could be because I'm still new at it. It folds up to about 5" x 6" x 12" and fits into the included bag nicely. The unit is solid. It unfolds ridiculously easily. It takes a bit of muscle to fold it up, but I suppose that's because the button-pin-things (technical term) have to be resistant enough to support the weight of two bikes. It is about 15 pounds (I'm not a stellar judge of weight, but it's heavier than a gallon of milk and lighter than two gallons of milk), so if I'm just riding for fun I probably won't carry it along. But because of its compact size, I absolutely could carry it with me. I commute to work via bike occasionally, and this allows for plan flexibility: I don't have to bike back home and then drive somewhere, I can just get picked up--this bike rack fits on the back of literally any car. I'll probably typically leave it in my car in case I need to haul the bike, but it's nice to know that I have the option to bring it with.

Doesn't fit a Dodge Dart (despite being on the list) and I wouldn't trust my bike to it if it did
Amazon will not allow me to use the kind of language required to accurately describe this car rack. It is an abysmal piece of junk. I never even got a bike on it before giving up and returning it because it's absolutely not compatible with my car, despite my car being clearly printed on the compatibility chart on the box. I spent 2 weeks researching car racks and somehow managed to choose the worst possible option. The lower secure strap needs to be hooked to something under the car to give you enough room to really crank it down tight. It can't be secured on the bottom lip of the trunk because there is an elastic piece of that strap that can't be tightened too short. The bottom lip of the trunk it too close to the bottom of the rack. So you need to secure it under the car. Except my car has an aerodynamic shield under the car that hides all the undercarriage and anything you could secure it to. That means that no one at Allen Sports ever actually tried it on my car before putting it on the compatibility list. Nothing is good about it. Even if it was compatible with my car, it is NOT stable. With the feet firmly planted on the car the pieces of it have A LOT of wiggle room against each other. No matter how tight you get the feet planted on the car the various pieces of the rack are going to move around. Even if I could get it securely fastened to the car and even if the bike fit properly in the cradles, I wouldn't carry my bike on this thing. No part of me believed this flimsy design would hold up if I hit a big bump or something. Even more amazing, it didn't fit my bike! A Specialized Crosstrail top tube does not seat securely in the clamps. The rear of the tub does but the front of the tube that's flatter and wider doesn't fit. (It's been an extremely popular design for Specialized for about a decade now. And its' not an uncommon overall tube look. It's not like I have 1 oddball shaped bike) It's absolutely not easy to break down and fold back up either. It takes some kind of tool to depress the lock buttons. It CANNOT be done by hand. And when using a tool I can see how easy it would be to accidentally push the buttons too far in and get them locked permanently inside the tubes. It's heavy as a beast! It's small, but it's heavy. The item description says 6 lbs. It's more than 6 lbs. A lot more. I've bought thousands of things from Amazon over the years. This is one of the 2 most disappointing purchases I've ever made.

Pleasantly amazed!
I was honestly hesitant about buying this bike rack, particularly given the comparatively low price tag. But I couldn't justify spending hundreds on something I only needed a few times a year, especially for a bike that's old enough to vote. Since I drive a Prius hatchback, I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find an affordable option that would work with my car – until I found this little gem! PROS: - STORAGE BAG: I love the fact that it comes with a storage bag, to keep it compact and organized when not in use. Without the bag, it would be more challenging to store and transport, particularly with all the straps involved. - EASY TO ASSEMBLE: The instructions are remarkably clear and comprehensible, with options for multiple body types. It took a little bit of study the first time to get it assembled and attached to the car (mainly because I was paranoid about doing it wrong), but from then on, it's a piece of cake. - SURPRISINGLY STURDY: I was wary about the stability of any folding/collapsible model, but when it's snapped into place and strapped to the car, it doesn't budge! – UP TO 2 BIKES: There's room for 2 bikes on this rack, although I've only used it for 1 so far. But I like that I have the option for a second bike. CONS: I only have 2 minor quibbles, but they're not big deals to me, particularly as the rack is so high quality yet affordable otherwise: - STRAP FRICTION: This one is kind of unique to the design of my car than to the bike rack, but worth considering. The straps are your standard heavy-duty ribbed design, which makes them super strong, but it also means that the straps could damage the finish on your car if they're allowed to rest against the body at any points of tension/friction. The design of my car necessitates that they rest at the point where the hatch bends from a gentle slope to being perpendicular with the road, so to avoid wear or friction damage at that point, I simply wrapped that portion of the straps with electrical tape, which seems to have worked great. - NOT AS STRAIGHTFORWARD FOR SLOPING CROSSBARS: If you're transporting a male bicycle with a [nearly] horizontal crossbar, you won't have any issues. But if you have a female bike or one with a heavily sloped crossbar, you're going to have to get creative to keep it from riding too high on the rack to be stable/secure or so low so that one side drags along the ground. There are adaptors you can buy separately to accommodate for this, although I haven't tried any of them personally. CONCLUSION: Well worth the price, and I've actually gotten a lot more use out of it than I'd initially anticipated. Highly recommended!

Good and simple one
The product is good. But it didn’t work for me. I wanted it for my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2012. I asked this question before buying and was informed it will work. But no. It’s doesn’t work. It shows in the box it won’t work. Why don’t put that pic on the box here. Anyways I have to admit that the product is good and very easy to install and remove.

Good, but needs padding
Build quality is good, but the feet are a very hard, rough plastic. There's no way these won't damage your car's paint.

could not fit 2 bikes
could not fit 2 mountain bikes, perhaps if the wheels and pedals were removed it might fit, ended up too much trouble, i used it just for 1 bike.
