MUELLER Sports Medicine Lumbar Back Brace with Removable Pad, Ideal for Upper and Lower Back Pain, Relief & Support for Men and Women, Strains, Sciatica, Scoliosis

As someone who suffers from sciatica problems, I've been looking for a decent back brace to help alleviate the pain, especially when driving. I tried several, and this one with the lumbar support really does the trick.I tried a couple of other brands, but Mueller overall produces a great product for a reasonable price. Construction is excellent - seams are tight, ample velcro, easy to put on and take off. I have a 34" waist and this fits fine -- could easily accomodate several more inches.I started with the basic Mueller brace (the one without the lumbar). Nice, but didn't really help all that much in terms of pain. The higher end Mueller (the one with the laces on the back) was also very nicely made and a snap to adjust, but again, it didn't offer the support I needed. The lumbar pad on this model makes all the difference. They have videos of several of their models on their website which are very helpful, but they are hard to find -- I just stumbled across them by plugging in the model numbers. Good info, but a very poorly organized site.Everyone's back is different, so unfortunately you'll need to try out various models to see what hits the sweet spot for your condition. All three Muller braces that I've tried were all very well made and a good value, so I can highly recommend the brand.I ended up buying two so I could keep one in the car and one at home. I found that using both lumbar supports next to one another makes the support even better. The lumbar pads attach with velcro, and there is room to fit both on the same belt side-by-side. That works best for me when driving. A single lumbar pad works well for when I'm mobile.I also want to pass along some advice I received from my physical therapist regarding braces. While they can be huge help, you should not wear one constantly since it can lead to muscle atrophy. The ideal situation is to build up your core muscles so they do the job on their own. A brace is just a stop-gap to help cut down on pain on the bad days or when you are stressing the muscles (which, for me, occurs when I'm driving long distances). Used judiciously they're great; used improperly can make the situation worse.If you're reading this you probably have back pain, and I very much hope you find the right solution that helps make the situation better or at least more tolerable.

I'm at that age where the body is willing but just not able to do everything that I want it to do. It's that age where you swear that you're not that old but your body picks inopportune times to remind you that you're not a kid anymore. This back brace has done a great job of helping me prolong the fantasy!With years of progressively worse back problems, I've recently had bouts with being unable to move without significant pain. It doesn't happen often, but when it does I can be out of commission for several days while popping prescriptions. After helping move my in-laws out of a condo recently, I had one of those bouts after months of no issues. So, when facing my own move, I decided to take a friend's advice to get a back brace and chose the Mueller based on reviews.I can't say for sure that it is really effective, but I can offer my observations to those considering it to help provide a little "aging" support:- I lifted, twisted, and carried (down flights of stairs and into vehicles) all manner of boxes and furniture without any major adverse effect.- I felt times when my back would have tweaked itself in a way that I've identified as bad for me only to feel the brace stabilize the motion and prevent pain.- I would wear the brace for hours, multiple days a week, for several weeks. It was comfortable enough to do that (though I never forgot that it was there).I fully believe, based on recent history, that I should have been popping pills to get me through the move. So, I credit this brace with giving me the stability that I needed to be an active participant in the move. But, I also used it as a reminder that while I may be strong enough to do a lot, I needed to temper my enthusiasm to do so. I accepted more help to lift heavy things, thought about how to best carry items before lifting them, took more breaks, and stopped when I felt my body fatiguing. I had many days where my body was physically exhausted and I could feel weakness in my back, but I never experienced significant pain beyond standard muscle soreness. I was so sold on it that when I left it behind in the middle of traveling back and forth for my move, I immediately ordered another one.This brace is really wide and the lumbar support really put pressure on my spine, but I never felt that it was uncomfortable. I wouldn't sit for a long time with it (I tried to drive and it just wouldn't let me slouch in a comfortable position...maybe that says something about my driving posture) so I wouldn't recommend it for folks who need a brace for more mundane activities. I also haven't worn it for sporting activities yet, but plan to do so. As others have mentioned, you will sweat under this brace and it will probably feel like a lot more than it should. That fact will make it difficult to take off for a few minutes and then put it back on. I usually would just deal with it or change my shirt if it felt like an problem.My experience is all anecdotal, I'm not a doctor, and I'm sure that my doctor wouldn't approve of all of the heavy lifting, but I think that this brace was what got me through it and I plan to continue wearing it any time I expect to do something that can shatter my fantasy of still not being "that old."

I am a 78 year old pickleball addict with a trick back. When it acts up I am generally able to play through it until it resolves itself within about a week. However a recent episode was worse and benched me until I ordered this back support. It is really not comfortable to play in because of the wide bindings that somewhat restricts movement, but allowed me to play without much pain. It does the job and kept me in the game until the issue resolved itself. My pain was in a specific location and with the adjustable/removeable pad I was able to put the pressure on the precise spot causing the most pain.

I recently incurred a pinched nerve or compressed disc in my lower back and needed something to help support my back while I recovered. This worked perfectly for my situation. While it didn't fully alleviate the pain, it definiately made getting around my house easier since my back muscles were more supported. The first day I received this I started wearing it immediately and even wore it to bed. It is comfortable enough to sleep in (given the circumstance of my condidition, I use the term "comfortable" loosely.) It isn't as breathable as I would like but otherwise the size and overall comfort is excellent. It did have a strong chemical odor when first opened; likely from the manufacturing factory.Great Option For The Price, Comfortable, Excellent Back Support, Easy To Use. Doesn't Offer Much Ventalation or Breathability.

I have had a chronically bad back for the past 11 years, due to a temporary leave of my senses resulting in poor judgement (kick, kick). Practicing Ashtanga yoga from a tape Ashtanga yoga short forms(yup, VHS, and bought on Amazon) following which I got a throbbing case of sciatica down my right leg. Not wanting to miss anything, I joined my young son on a cannon-like roller coaster at California Adventure. 10 times. That sign above the entrance reading, "DO NOT RIDE if you have neck or back problems"? Ppffft, why would that apply to me? As a research nut, I should have known that sciatica is caused by a bulging disc. And that being shot from a cannon 10 times might cause it to get worse. Well, yeah. The next day, I almost fell over when getting out of bed. I had lost the dorsiflexion in my right foot - could no longer pull up the front of my foot. 3 months later, I gave in and got an l4/5 microdiscectomy. It turns out that the ride had snipped a section of my disc so that it dangled and it would never have healed on its own.The battle back was tough over the next few years (acupuncture, massage chiropractic, PT, Egoscue, and more). I normally now have only minor pains and I've gotten enough of my dorsiflexion back to drive, but still have a limp. I've had a few bouts with my back since, but nothing that has kept me out of the office longer than a day or two...until now. Three weeks ago, I stood up from my bed while putting on some jeans, and WHAM. Only able to get out of bed (that in an of itself presented a hugely painful challenge) for short periods of time, and unable to sit, I worked from my bed for a week and a half and am now on sick leave and vacation for a bit longer.I had never owned or worn a back support, but decided to order this one due to the rave reviews, and it has helped me incredibly. I had bought a Futuro brace in the local market for more money thinking it would tide me over until the Mueller arrived, but didn't feel sufficiently supported by it. This Mueller is substantial, yet so comfortable and supportive with its lumbar pad that I have slept in it the past few nights, permitting me to sleep without waking with a shriek of pain when moving in my sleep. I credit it (and the McKenzie exercises) with preventing additional insult to my injury, allowing the nerve to calm down enough that I can now sit (some), and even drove today, although I still have quite a way to go to being healed.The brace itself is well built and feels durable. Its four overlapping belt flaps allow for precise secure velcro adjustment. I have a 36/37 inch waist and am more than fine with the regular sized belt. It is stretchy and should be worn tightly, so I don't see any reason why someone with a 40 inch waist couldn't wear it as there is plenty of room left once I've adjusted it. It does not roll up or down when worn and doesn't see like it would even after further use. Its only con that I have noticed is that it has a chemical smell, that I assume will eventually fade.Double thumbs up for this brace, and a bargain at this price.

The primary belt with the male, hook, velcrow is 2 inches wider than the belt it overlaps so the exposed male velcrow can snag your clothes. You need to wear it over an undershirt. Other than that I like it and it helps my lower back pain.

For many years I have used 'up-market' back support belts as sold by a large pharmacy. Even so, there is a world of difference between that quality of belt and this one! Everything about the Mueller belt is 'beefed up' and stronger. For a start, the fastening 'tabs' on each layer of the belt are much wider and are reinforced for stiffness so that they don't roll over when confronted by 'belly' pressure. That was the uncomfortable part of past braces for me. Similarly, the belt is much wider and provides vertical support over a 'taller' area of the hips and lower back. There are also TWO types of lumbar support devices: 8 steel springs or stays and an anatomical stiff foam pad to further support and compress the central lumbar area.As for the 'fine print' that produces reader questions: the device is hand washable in cold water and mild detergent, without using fabric softener or bleach. Air dry. The product DOES CONTAIN LATEX RUBBER AND A NEOPRENE BLEND synthetic rubber. Persons with those 'allergies' or whose skin is irritated by such products need to make another selection if the product is worn against the skin. This device can be adjusted to offer considerable compression and its use should be limited to daytime wear in the interest of giving relief to internal organs and allowing air circulation to prevent perspiration rashes.SIZE MATTERS. Regular fits 28-50 inches/71-127cm. Right out of the box a user might not believe the belt could stretch that much but I got a good, comfortable 44 inches out of it. Similarly, the outer layer of compression/support strapping is made to overlap the fasteners on the under layer. The BLUE tab on the belt should fasten to the BLUE surface on the farther side of the belt. Don't be afraid to pull on the straps as needed. (My belt's box had previously been opened, and probably tried by another customer who didn't like the size.)USES: Of course the primary use is intended to be support for a stressed lumbar area or as a preventative for workers who repeatedly lift 'heavy' packages. I use mine when I do have lower back pain but also, lately, to help spread the stress of my upper body weight over BOTH hips to take stress off an arthritic hip. It does work for that purpose for me. The literature that comes with the brace notes other models that provide abdominal and stomach support. The brace will also help to reestablish posture for those of us who have a 'fair' overhang of stomach but I make no claims for utility if real obesity is an issue. Check with your physician if you have serious support issues to deal with.

I rarely ... RARELY ... write reviews, but just had to in this case. I'll apologize in advance for all the specific details.I suffer from back spasms. A few times a year I bend over to pick something up or what have you and my lower back on the right side just seizes up. Sometimes I am left flat on my back on the hard floor for a few days before things get better, sometimes I'm able to move around a little bit, but it's always super painful. In the mirror, I look like a question mark. Beyond the spasm, the rest of me starts to hurt because the non-spasming side has to compensate. I also have a lot of weakness in the lower back. Just so you know, I don't have the issue where the pain goes down my leg ... it's just in my back. I treat the back spasm with the usual: Ice, heat, ibuprofen, back massager. In the end, treatment helps but really time is the only thing that really works; eventually my back just heals.I bought this brace the last time I had a spasm. I picked it for no other reason than it was "Amazon's Choice" and it's under 20 bucks. I figured I had nothing much to lose.Best under 20 bucks I ever spent.To be clear, the back spasm wasn't instantly healed. I did not strap on the brace and immediately feel 100 percent. A spasm is an injury. Injuries take time to heal. A brace doesn't change that.But I immediately felt better when I put it on. All that stress on the non-spasming side was relieved. The support lessened the pain on the side that of the back spasm. Before I put it on, I could get around my house a little bit, but after I put it on I was able to take a slow walk around the block. While it didn't "heal" the spasm, I believe it sped up the healing process by providing needed support.As I write this, I'm back to about 95% of where I was before the latest spasm. I'm able to go for a walk and am even back to going for a run (I have been wearing the brace on my runs. I'm slower, but not that much slower.)The brace is super simple to wear and very comfortable. I don't sleep in it, but I could if needed. I mostly leave it on while I'm sitting at my desk working even though I'm mostly better because why not have the extra support given I have a weakness in my back? It's perfectly comfortable and adjustable.I really do recommend this brace. I put the details in above so that those considering it would have reasonable expectations. If your symptoms are like mine or similar, I really do feel that this brace is worth a try, especially give the reasonable price.(After I wrote this review, I bought another brace so I'd have one for working out and one for the rest of the time.)

This brace is made with good quality material and the Velcro sticks well .it gives excellent support for my back and comfortable to wear over clothes.After a couple of days using this brace my back definitely feels better, it’s very well made and I have used it before too and bought the same Mueller back brace again because this brace has 2 sets of straps so you can really tighten it up . One size fits all it says but please take your measurements this brace is not very big and the ends barely meet up when worn over a thin cotton dress.The seller’s are very helpful and quick to respond to your questions if you need to know more . I highly recommend this back brace and the seller’s too . This back brace is the best one around and I am very happy I bought it.
