## Questions & Answers

**Q: Despite using oil and the pan being already seasoned, steak sticks to the pan. Is this normal for the first time or do I need to return my pan?**
A: It is common for new cast iron (even pre-seasoned) to have sticking issues. Just use a little more oil and butter when cooking your steaks and it will slowly build up more of a tolerance over time. Also, make sure the pan is hot before putting oil in, and especially any steaks. I have a glass top electric stove so I let the pan heat up for about 15 minutes before adding oil and butter. It starts at about 625 degrees, but after adding oil and butter, it cools to about 450. Then I add the steak after the butter melts, and I don't have any sticking issues at all. I use very coarse sea salt and oil to clean the pan, and then flax seed oil to re-season after. I turn the burner on high and let the pan sit there until it starts smoking and then turn off the burner and let it cool for a few hours (or even overnight) before putting it back in the cabinet. Hope this helps.

**Q: Has anyone used this for camping? What was your experience with it?**
A: I use it when we car/tent camped.  Can do a lot with this combo.  I use it to fry and bake (as a dutch oven)   I even used it as a bean pot to make baked beans.  At night, put it in a hole with the coals and cover it with dirt....by morning the beans are ready...  It is now my RV prime cooking utensil.  I bought mine almost 5 years ago (2016) and its still going strong

**Q: How much does it weigh with the lid and with out it?**
A: The skillet is 8-9lbs pot about 13. Together they're like, about 20 or so. They don't feel that heavy though, & amazon price is LESS then 1/2 what you'd pay for 1 pot on website..plus they're handy for whackin stuff! ;)

**Q: why is this so much cheaper here than on the Lodge site? 62.00 on their site compared to here**
A: Don't know, but the price is comparable to what we saw at the Lodge outlet store.

My daughter got hooked on cast iron using my pans, and is starting to build her own collection. All she wanted for her 20th birthday was more cast iron. I picked this for her because of the versatility of the size and shape. This is a pan she can use to pan broil, do stir fries, cook chili or spaghetti sauce and of course, fry chicken. It arrived in perfect shape, standard Lodge seasoning. So if you want to just go with it as is, you can. If you want to strip the seasoning and re-season, there are great instructions on the net to do that. She opted for the original seasoning, gave it a quick scalding water rinse, toweled dry, then added a couple coats of seasoning using Crisco she keeps exclusively for pan seasoning. She also fries bacon in her pans once a week to help the seasoning. The lid has little bumps all over it, this is so condensation drips back into the pan for a self-basting effect on things like roasts. When you lift the lid after it's cooled, give it a firm shake over the pan to get the last drops off the lid. It has both a handle and a grip to make it easy for a two handed lift. Cast iron is fantastic for the way it heats up and retains heat, and for how non-stick it is with proper care and seasoning. I have no doubt that my daughter will be passing this pan down. She's just thrilled with it. EDIT: This pan has become the most used pan in our kitchen. Even my son, who gets a little nervous using his sister's cast iron, will choose this pan regularly for one pot meals.
