そもそも、このスイッチのメリットは、下ハンドルを強く握っている時に変速が出来る事です。つまり、集団スプリントをしている時などです。下ハンの時でも競ってなければ、指を伸ばしてSTIのスイッチを作動させれば良いので、レーサー以外の方は、無くても困りません。取り付ける場合は、自分が握るハンドルの位置を充分確認してから、スイッチの位置決めをしてください。僅かでも位置がズレていると、スイッチを押すのに力が必要になります。つまり、下ハンドルを握りながら、親指を動かせる範囲は狭いので、力が入る方向がスイッチを作動させる方向に合っていないと、スムーズにスイッチを作動できないと言う事です。私が、これを使い始めたのは冬でしたが、最初に取り付けた位置では、スムーズにスイッチを押せず、寒さで指もかじかんでいたので、スイッチを押す度に指が痛くなり、相当なストレスでした。ベストを探すため、3回もやり直しました。そのためにバーテープの両面テープが効かなくなり、テープの縁がズレるため、更に両面テープを貼り直して巻き直したので、ベストポジションを見つけるまでに4回の巻き直しをしました。まぁ、無くても困らないのですが、使うなら位置が適正じゃないと使いづらいです。付いていて良かったと感じたのは、強風の時に風圧を避けるために下ハンを握っているときかな？

スプリントなんかしないので、殆どつかってませんが、装備しました。取り付けは、バーテープの加工とか、巻き方の工夫とか難しくて、綺麗に搭載するのは結構手間がかかりました。それだけに、完成後は達成感ありました。

Extremely useful for anytime you're riding in the drops, not just sprinting. Cutting the bar tape to accommodate the shifters was a bit of a pain and the result is not quite as clean-looking as I'd like, but the functionality is excellent. Be aware you need either the latest-generation Ultregra or DA Di2 brifters to use this, I don't think the last-generation brifters have the right connector (at least not Ultegra, maybe the DA does).

This is such a cool product. It has made shifting in the drops a delight, incredibly convenient, and amazingly valuable, especially when sprinting. It is so great to keep one's grip in the optimal position for sprinting, and just boom, click, click, click when moving down the cassette is called for. I sometimes find myself riding in the drops just so I can use these for shifting!!

These are the best addition to any bike with electronic Shimano derailleurs! Effortless shifting from the drops keeps you on the drops more. Self installation was very easy too, a little tricky to get a clean hole in the bar tape, but doable. A 45 minute job. Should be standard on performance bikes!!
