Kit used for a dog -- a better-than-expected steel alloy.
Not long ago, our 8 year old Geologist-in-Residence decided to clean and mark her rock collection, so, in lieu of the tools of her currently professed future profession, she managed to find the old dental kit for cleaning dog teeth. This left behind a bent and blunt scaler/curette and a very happy Weimaraner. To replace the mangled tool, I purchased this item from Amazon for the amount Amazon was charging any other shopper.ORIGINMost low-end dental kits currently in the market are manufactured in Pakistan. Stardust is a brand name of the L. A. Elahi company, of Punjab Pakistan, which has the Laelahi dot-com website.SPECSIt is not clear of which type and grade of steel alloy these tools are made. The Product Description section of this Amazon page, claims the metal is _rust-proof German stainless steel_. Nevertheless, the description by Elahi of exactly the SAME kit in an online bulk retailer claims it is _non rust Japanese stainless steel_. Its low cost makes it unlikely it is made of a medical/surgical grade steel alloy, despite the hype in the name. The kit's pieces are ferromagnetic. The disparity about the country of manufacture is relevant in terms of differences noted in high-end knives, with those of German steel being less brittle but less hard, and those of Japanese steel being brittler but harder. For the purpose of pushing a relatively thin metal tip between the teeth, where it could break if the metal is brittle, 420 German steel seems best. The mouth mirror is a No. 5 (24 mm), flat, rear-surface mirror, with a threaded handle top midway between flat and conical styles. As with all rear-surface mirrors, the image it reflects is somewhat degraded as compared to that from a front-surface mirror. It is not fog-proof, nor the manufacturer claims it to be; rub a bit of saliva on it after warming it on hot water so it fogs less.QUALITY CONTROLUnder magnified visual inspection I did not see grinding burrs or defects on the scaler or the curette. Doing tactile checks, however, I felt a few relatively rough points on one edge of the large hook of the scaler, which were easily removed with fine sand paper.WARRANTYIt can be defined as _Open Wide and Wish for Good Luck_. I found no mention whatsoever, here or in the Elahi website, of what kind of warranty, if any at all, is offered and what would be its terms and remedies.RATINGThe tools are easy to use (though the large hook of the scaler ought to be much thinner) and give good results if you know what you are doing (and you better know it if having fingers inside the mouth of an often squirming dog), especially when scrapping just below the gum line -- never deeper. Keep in mind tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the body; it can even dull steel scalers. So far, the kit has worked well and without problem. In the absence of fractional star ratings, a slightly generous 4-star rating seem adequate..

I tried out this kit once and it seems to work much better than the previous kit I purchased locally
It is sharp and appear to be a quality dental kit. Mine came with some minor grinding marks and scratches on the scraper but it does not affect the tool's function. I tried out this kit once and it seems to work much better than the previous kit I purchased locally.

The rest of the teeth seemed fine and it did not seem worth it to make ...
First off, this is obviously not the same quality as surgical grade equipment sold to dentists, but the price point is not the same either.I got my teeth cleaned in January but somehow (probably my coffee habit) I got some tartar buildup on my bottom front teeth. The rest of the teeth seemed fine and it did not seem worth it to make a Dentist visit just for that little bit of tartar, so thought would try to remove it myself.Only the scraper was needed (so far) and it worked admirably. It was somewhat satisfying to see the tartar come smoothly off.I would not recommend you do an entire cleaning yourself - go see the dentist, but this works in a pinch if you need to get gunk off quickly before a date or an interview.[edit] forgot to add, the case is a nice touch, nice place to store the tools.

The mirror is useless. The tools are heavy and seem legit
Why would a mirror that is meant for use in a mouth not anti-fog?The mirror is useless. The tools are heavy and seem legit, but they have machine marks that real dental ones do not have. They have sanded edges and they do not have a thin enough scraper to get in between teeth well.

Great for Doggy Dental Care!
I actually bought this to help with my dog's teeth - she's got a small tartar problem. Doggy teeth cleanings are expensive and potentially dangerous because they require the animal to be anesthetized. Since I want to avoid that at all costs, I got this to prolong the time until she needs a cleaning. I've only used the set once so far, but already I can tell it will be an invaluable tool. I can't comment as to whether or not it's "professional grade" as I'm not a dentist, but they are effective and sharp and don't have "burrs" that snag the way some cheaply made metal products do and I feel comfortable using it on my dog. Very happy!

Dental Tool Kit is Great!
The dental hygiene kit arrived promptly and is a well crafted stainless steel tool set. I put it to good use the day it arrived. I'm very cautious when using the tools. I don't push too hard or below the gum line in removing tartar. This tool kit replaces the tools I'd used for many years that finally broke (the tip broke off). I tried to purchase a new tool from my dentist but for liability reasons he declined (was afraid I might injure myself; dental tools are sharp). I would purchase this kit again with no issues whatsoever.

really cheap
These are made of cheap metal and you can tell the moment you open the box. The mirror fogs up within a second. But hey, the price matches the quality.

Does the job! Good quality tools.
I have a bonded retainer along my bottom teeth, and there is NO way to thread floss through, so I was really bothered by the plaque buildup where I couldn't reach. I am careful to avoid my gums and this helps to keep that nasty buildup OUT. I'm relieved that I can take care of this issue at home between professional cleanings now. The tool quality is good, definitely as described - and comes with a nice case. I recommend this product to anyone seeking dental tools for at-home plaque maintenance.
