I use it for cutting cordura fabric as it both cuts and seals the edges to prevent fraying. It heats up almost instantly and is very easy to control.

This hot knife is GREAT! It cuts very fast. The temperature control dial is certainly hard to read, but the light flickers when temperature is on low setting, and is solid when on high setting. So, once this is understood, it's somewhat intuitive to adjust temperature up and down based on the flickering frequency. And this works fine, since every material is different and having numbers on the dial probably wouldn't help much either. The fan comes on only when trigger is pulled, and is very quiet. Some of the other videos I saw of this in use made me think it would be a loud tool. It's definitely not. And the tool hasn't overheated at all, and has been cutting through everything like butta. It is certainly annoying though that this tool does not fit in its own case when the cutting blade is attached. So, I used the tool to modify the case, and it now fits just fine. We recently installed a 16' x 20' thin (<1/8") outdoor polypropylene carpet on our deck. Carpet dealers recommended the carpet be surged to avoid splaying. The cost of a custom surged carpet installed was really expensive over $1500 more than what we could order as a roll of carpet delivered to our home. After careful research on-line I learned how difficult it is to glue or finish seams on a polypropylene carpet and learned that the best way is to basically melt the cut end of the material. Since we needed to cut long sections off two sides to fit our deck a continuous operation hot knife seemed like it might work, but I couldn't find any specific information on youtube or Google let alone whether a 100W knife would have enough power. Turned out this produce was perfect. We were able to make long straight cuts with the cut edge of the carpet hot melted so it couldn't fray. We could easily manipulate the blade to trim complicated corners for posts. Two sides and many cutouts were needed around posts and pipes. As expected we had to periodically clean the melted plastic off the blade, but when done the knife worked perfectly. I do recommend, however, to wear masks to avoid inhalation of odors I highly recommend.

I purchased this cutter based on how it was presented. It is built very heavy duty and pricing was good. Works well for my application; cutting Cordura 1000D and various rip stop synthetic fabrics. Takes a little getting use to. Plan on a metal or plywood surface to cut fabric on. You will get a small amount of smoke with heavier fabrics so I did my cutting in the garage. Would have preferred a cordless design but pricing was a bit up there for my limited need.

Works really well. This is from someone that almost always 'makes do'. Heats within seconds and cuts like butter. Using it on a ceramic tile. Cutting grosgrain, Sunbrella, and scuba-thick webbing (for belts).
