A very happy little maul for leatherworking
WOW! I am very happy with this little maul. As reiterated by many other reviewers, this has a great feel in your hand and very worth the price for leather crafting work.A couple of notes about its construction; the weight of the total mallet is 11.1oz with 9.7oz being in the head. That means most of the weight is bearing down when you're striking. Because of the short handle and how it is gripped, it feels comfortable and under control when being used. I did do a few good whacks on my quartz tabletop and didn't feel anything come loose or have anything go flying off, so it seems pretty solidly made. Just realize that this is a "precision" instrument meant for tooling and light work. While you could certainly set rivets and snaps, it still is light weight. It doesn't have enough weight to do heavy work like using hole punches or stitching chisels through 9oz or heavier leather. But when it comes to detail tooling, I could use this for hours without getting tired or sore.If you're looking for a first time leather tooling maul, I would certainly recommend this to you.

Took a chance...
Been wanting to try a maul, without spending big money on one. Considering I may not like the feel of it. No worries...this maul is perfect, a tad light, weighing in at just under a pound. It’s comfortable to use. Favor it much more than my $100 poly hammer. Had to sand a rough edge on the top, but everything else seems solid with the tool. The maul is more of a rocking motion than hitting, like the hammer. Feels like I have more consistent hits in my tooling. The maul is well balanced. Great buy for the money. Should have started with this, but it’s a learning curve, as you go, to discover which type of tool works best for you. I am very pleased with my purchase. I highly recommend this quality product.

Great for stamping but not quality
I like how light this mallet is, it makes it way less tiring to do lots of stamping. It's not that high of quality though. I haven't done any heave pounding work like punching or riveting with it just stamping and the handle is already cracking. And the end piece that holds everything together keeps coming unscrewed every minute or so. When it gets too loose I can't get a clean stamp it causes it to ghost. Some thread locker will probably fix it I just need to go buy some. It's a good price considering how much a quality one costs so I don't regret buying it.

Happy I took the chance.
Always wondered if I would like a mail instead of a mallet. Took a flyer on this. For using a pricking iron and cutting corners this is absolutely perfect and actually much easier to use than the soft hammer I was using. Much less effort and I am finding I don’t need to watch the “hot” and instead I can pay attention to the “business end” of the tool I’m using.

Skip this one
The wooden handle is quite nice has comfort... the problem is with the bolt on the bottom...after a few strikes it becomes very loose and i have lost it on some occasion and it falls apart. The roller will rotate and causes it to ricochet in whatever direction it wants to go...save your money and buy a Barry King

Works just fine. No issues with it.
Pretty great inexpensive maul. I mean, you whack things with it, and it does just fine for that purpose; not sure what else to say.I did put some blue loc-tite on it right out of the box, to keep the nut from potentially coming undone. No issues at all so far.

Just what I needed
I am a gunsmith and use a wide variety of hammers. This one is nice for push pins on receivers. Does not scratch if you keep it clean.

Hammer Time!
This is a great hammer for leather craft. Easy to grip and strike. Unlike flat head hammers, you don't have to worry about keeping the hammer flush with the tool you are striking. That lets you focus on the leather piece you are tooling more. Nice to have in your leather tooling kit!
