Updated review;Very accurate test, great customer service
Second updated/edited review in 2025: I submitted a review in 2023. I just wanted to do an update and give another five star review for yet another DNA My Dog test I used. We brought home a new puppy in 2025 and I ordered a DNA test first from embark because the DNA My Dog test noted that there might be a Canadian postal strike, so instead I ordered a test from Embark. I was very displeased with the embark results. So then I ordered a test from DNA My Dog as the postal strike never happened. I was again just so pleased with the results. I like the CNV testing that DNA My Dog uses where they keep micro-ing down to get the specific dog breeds. They use a different method than embark or wisdom.. You can write them and they will send you the scientific information on how they do their testing. The DNA My Dog test was right on from what I knew about our puppy. The DNA My Dog test showed that she was 28% toy poodle, 15% miniature poodle, 15%Cairn, 15% cavalier, and the lessers were 14% Husky and 13% Corgi. The embark test did have poodle and husky on them in different amounts but nothing else was the same and had some very large breeds listed. First three photos are of our Lily who we lost due to neurological problems in 2024. The fourth photo is of our new puppy Lucy. You can see due to her phenotyping that she looks like poodle and Cairn terrier. I love DNA My Dog! Will not do any other DNA testing with anyone else. First review in 2023:Their DNA results for our little Lily were very accurate. She is 20 lbs and not quite 15” at shoulders, and very small boned. We sent none of our thoughts on her parentage or photos to DNAmydog. I have shown all-breed dogs for years. We definitely saw Border Terrier, Jack Russell, and maybe Boston Terrier in her. She has terrier wire back coat, and the wire hair fuzzies on face, chin, neck and paws. And when results came back it was 36% French bull dog, so that is why I guess we were thinking Boston. But then we could really see the Frenchie in ears and across the eyes, and the top skull when she did not furrow her brow. The Frenchie also explained her underbite. Also testing showed Border Terrier, Parsons Jack Russell, MinPin and Min Poodle. They use the CNV testing which I have researched is more accurate than the SNP testing. I did another DNA test with Wisdom after for fun. Terrible results! Pit Bull, Staff, Amer Bull Dog, Rottweiler, Lab, Boxer, Poodle, Chihuahua and Cocker. No way! Bad experience. Do the DNAmydog! They are in Canada so sample takes about 10 days to get to lab from USA but worth it.

DNA My Dog is a bogus DNA testing company - always verify DNA Labs for legitimacy.
This Genetic service is unfortunately not kosher, it's a scam. I sent the genetic testing for my terrier puppy and the results came back way off and was not accurate at all. I should have known there was a red flag when I bought the kit and opened it. They wanted a picture of my puppy when I returned the two swabs for testing. I didn't send a picture for obvious reasons. The results came back and they were way off. So I emailed the firm and this time I included the picture of my puppy and stated that something must have gone wrong in the lab testing the swabs. The results were: Irish Setter (Level 4), Rottweiler (Level 4), Black and Tan Coon hound (Level 4), and German Shepherd Dog (Level 4). Huh? Well they were nice and agreed to run the DNA testing again with the remaining swab I had sent them. About four weeks... no results, so I e-mailed them that I was waiting for the results of the second swab.A couple of days later, I received an envelope that appeared to be a reused envelope with my shipping address label affixed over some other addressee and inside were two swabs and instructions to return the results to some New York address and not to the Canadian address? What gives? They didn't send me the complete contents in the retail box? My gut feeling was telling me something didn't seem right. I was thinking, mmmmm... What should I do... because the person initially responded (via e-mail)that they were going to test the remaining swab I had returned the first time. So...rather than swabbing my puppy again, I swabbed my mouth instead and returned both swabs to that New York address. After 3 more weeks I get the results of my swabs. I was IN SHOCK 'cause I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS part BORDER TERRIER, LABRADOR RETRIEVER AND A POODLE! I broke the news to my older brothers that either our Mother was cheating on Dad, or our Dad was part canine. They didn't take the news too kindly. I was tripping! I thought my brothers and I were human descendants of the homo-sapiens. Though I must admit, I do have a way with dogs, they all seem to like me and welcome me as part of their canine gene pool. LOL! But seriously, the results that I had sent of my swabbed cheeks came back as the aforementioned breeds. I contacted Amazon and they immediately gave me store credit. DNA My Dog is a bogus DNA testing company. Always verify DNA companies, read reviews on amazon and also on YELP to verify DNA Canine and Cat testing labs/companies. How many other companies are doing this and which ones are kosher? Who knows?

Boxer?! HUH!!? No lab at all!?
So... I found a dog on the side of the highway. She appeared to be a lab mix, maybe golden, a bit of shepherd or husky tossed in... This is what the vet said when we took her to the vet for first shots etc, and scheduled a spay for 2 weeks later. At the spay appt, we found out she was having puppies! 6 or 7 of them. My vet looked at me and asked what was I going to do? I was like, well, what can I do!? I guess I'm having puppies. She laughed, told me I'm a saint, and proceeded to turn me in the direction of information since I'd never had a dog that wasn't spayed, therefore, no exposure to raising pups. I was clueless. Fast forward 2 months, 7 CRAZY puppies later! They were crazy and sweet, and as much as we loved them, we loved to see them go! The odd thing was all 7 puppies were different. There were two that looked like shepherds when born, but turn out to look like hounds, or rottweilers as they got a bit older. One looked like a full blood golden. Another looked more like an otter than a dog. I decided to do a DNA test on the mom (the dog we kept) and see what she was. Level 3 BOXER and German Shepherd?? Level 4 Siberian Husky and Corgi?! Say what!? Level 5 American Eskimo and Brittany?! Pure craziness! But then, looking at a couple of the pups, I totally see the Boxer now. And, looking at the mom, she's like the Mr. Potato Head of all these breeds, and, it's obvious! After having the pups, her already thin frame became scary thin while nursing. Then, as they were weaned, she's got the super compact strong body of a boxer. She's got the eyes and fur of the corgi, and the snout and ears of the Brittany. She's got the undercoat/tail of the shepherd and husky and gaze. She's got the stance and feathering of the Eskimo and corgi. She's a brilliant dog. Super intelligent, and very high energy, but extremely loving and devoted. She's a mix of many of the dog breeds my son wanted, and I told him no because I didn't like them (shedding/big/protective/high energy etc.) But, yet, as she is, she's perfect. I do think by raising 7 pups for a stray we found weeks before giving birth I've secured my place in heaven (I had no idea how hard that would be!!! Spay and neuter your pets!!!) but I got lucky I found this dog in a lab mix costume (no lab at all!!) and gave her a chance without prejudice. I told the adopters I was doing a DNA test, so... If any of you reading this are part of the Snipe family, this is the kit I ordered! Those Snipes are limited edition, as Snipe got spayed on the 15th of May :) As far as the process and such, it couldn't have been easier! Cheek swab when the dog has been away from others and shared toys/bowls/etc for a few hours and send it in. Keep the little code you're given in your packet, and check the results online. A few days after your results are available on line, you get a little packet in the mail with your certificate and a very brief summary of the breeds identified in your pet. I totally recommend this kit.

Happy with results
I sent a test in for both of my pups that I had adopted from the humane society in the same envelope. The second pup for some reason I couldn’t get registered. I emailed the company and let them know. They responded right back and kept in touch. When they received the swabs they let me register the second test instead of just throwing it away. I know there are people out there thinking this is a scam since you have to send in a picture of your pet. I had received the results back and information about each breed in my pup. He might have all those breeds in him or he might not. Either way I really enjoyed this experience and glad I did it. Excited to get the second results back for the other one. I would absolutely do this again and I have told some friends they should have this done. Just remember no dog is full blooded there will always be something in their bloodline rather you accept it or not. I will be also ordering an allergy test from this company. 5 stars in my book!!!

Accurate testing
I got my girl Tilly from the shelter last year and she was labeled a Chihuahua. However, several people said she looked like a Brussel Griffith, which I had never heard of before, but after looking them up, I agreed. So I thought it’d be fun to do a test, she’s both! The test was easy to administer and I agree with the results the character traits describe her pretty closely. However, I did prefer the wisdom DNA test better. I liked the layout of the results it gave a little bit more detail and listed any known relatives which I appreciated so this test was OK, but I will be using wisdom for here on out.

Waste of money. Not even close.
Fake fake fake: TWICE, they failed. Do not buy this. Horrible. Completely inaccurate. My dog is not any of the three breeds they said he was. I mostly bought this testing kit for fun, to confirm what is known and nothing on the test results came close. It said my dog was divided into three breeds, fairly equally. If they had gotten it correct with any of his actual breeds, and maybe said he is a tiny bit of one of what is known, then maybe I’ll except it as possible. But, it’s not true in the slightest. Also, the results gives you a chart of your dog’s predispositions towards various things, such as trainability, personality, food motivation, playfulness, how good his sense of smell is, etc. None of those matched him at all. I can’t even say there was a single thing on the entire test results that is close to accurate. The only thing I can assume is if it is not a scam, then they possibly confused my dog’s DNA with another’s. Furthermore, my dog is not around other dogs and doesn’t socialize with other dogs and use their toys. There is zero chance he would’ve gotten his test mixed up with another dog’s DNA at home. I was very hesitant to try a canine DNA test. However, this one looked good and I put my faith in them and their abilities. Now, I am beyond disappointed. It was a complete waste of money and time.

I love you Ms.Dottie Doodle
I was shocked at how accurate this test was. I just recently adopted a dog from a rescue and I was questioning the dogs breed when I sent in the DNA test. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work because it was so dry I didn’t give them very much information aside of the dogs weight and approximate age, not even the color. I had been told she was a Bernadoodle, all the while I suspected the dog was part sheep dog. When I received the results the first thing on the list was a standard poodle, second was a miniature poodle, and third was a sheepdog. There were less amounts of an English springer spaniel and a Wheaton terrier. They also gave a detailed description of each breed and it traits. Overall, I was very pleased. The test did take approximately two weeks just to arrive at the destination, but then about one week for results. Now I can let the rescue know what breed of dog they still have in foster.

Absolutely worth it. I have bought before, and will buy again from DND My Dog.
I cannot say enough good things about DNA My Dog. This has been the 2nd dog that I have tested, and I will continue to be a customer of theirs for life. My first experience with them was to test my beloved childhood dog, who did not have long left. This was in 2017. Their customer support is fantastic; Quick, kind, and responsive. They walked us through a way to collect a sample from our dog without the kit, as she did not have the time to wait on a kit to arrive. Although we were not even a customer of DNA My Dog at this point, they treated us fantastically and we purchased shortly after. We got the sample from our dog the day before she passed away, and DNA My Dog provided us her test results a few weeks later. What a beautiful gift it is to finally know what breed mix your dog is, after 14 years of loving her. This most recent purchase was to test our two-year old mixed breed simply out of curiosity. Just as with the first time, their customer support is quick and very pleasant to deal with. This test shipped quickly (despite current COVID mail delays), the instructions were very clear, and the time it took between arriving at the lab and being tested was minimal. The online interface for registration is basic, which is perfectly fine for this application. The test itself is one of the lowest-cost on the market. However, it covers an extensive list of breeds. And honestly, this is all just done out of curiosity... they are dogs, so why spend double or triple the price? DNA My Dog does everything you could possibly want for a very reasonable price. And as an added bonus, DNA My Dog is a Canadian company! If you are looking for a DNA test for your dog, I wholeheartedly recommend you go with DNA My Dog.

Excellent
Great test. We have a rescue dog who we thought was a collie/pointer mix but wondered about a couple of other breeds too (maybe whippet?) and result was…60% collie, 30% pointer! I didn’t send any other info or photo with the test. It’s really nice to have the confirmation and gives great confidence in the test! Really good communication throughout process and no problems sending test from Ireland.
