Reef Life: A Guide to Tropical Marine Life Paperback – CLV, March 8, 2013

I was recently diving in Roatan Honduras and was overwhelmed by the sheer variety of life on the reefs there. I was looking for a book where it was easy to look up a fish, coral or sponge and put a name to it. This book certainly has all the data, but it's organized in a seemingly random manner. Flipping through looking for a blue fish that I saw can only be done by luck. I don't want to be one of those reviews where I had unrealistic expectations, but I'm not really sure how this book was intended to be used. It's not a cover to cover read and it's not organized by a clear visual taxonomy. Lots of info and nice pix though!

This book covers the marine life of the entire circumtropic zone describing both the citters that inhabit the zone but also describing the marine ecology of the zone. For divers and others who travel throughout the zone, this is the one single book that brings it all together. The book is easy to use, has incredible photos, and very concise and informative descriptions. This is the only guide that one should need to carry.

Very good reference for both scuba diving and aquarium very helpful

I bought this guide because it not only has fishes, but also a lot of other life forms that you can see at a reef. It is very nice if you want to know the name of whatever you saw while diving and have a short informative text about it.Definitely recommendable.

I was really surprised how good this book is. It is very interesting. It provides information on reef life itself, not necessarily pertaining to an aquarium.

It had every thing I was looking for following a live aboard live trip to the Great Barrier Reef and good information about the sea life's lives. Now I can label the pictures correctly.

This book is beautiful from the front cover to the back. The photographs are captivating and the information regarding the photos is concise and well written. This is a wonderful coffee table book and makes a terrific gift for anyone who loves underwater life or has ever gone diving. It is the ultimate guide to tropical marine life!

A really nice book content wise, wonderful photo's, a great selection and clear and bright images. Much more than just pictures of fish etc.BUT ... the binding is awful, the glue holding the leaves to the spine is terrible. Having to re-glue it myself. So many books today have really poor bindings and start to fall apart right away. This book is thick, about 4cm but even so, it really shouldn't come apart the first time it's opened !!

A fantastic set of pictures with names and information that will not disappoint. I bought this after seeing an article mentioing an upcoming book. I'm now curious to see his previous works and will be watching for future publications for which it appears he has a few ideas.It's quite an odd format (about 7" square) and quite chunky (1.5" thick). However it's well bound, has a good index and is a joy to flick through. A quality piece of work in more ways than one. Great as a coffee table placeholder and for browsing through to identify the mystery creature you saw while diving. The kids also love it when we can point to fish and other sea creatures we saw on our dives and the quality of the photos is consistently high.Just go and buy a copy!

Entertaining book for browsing, with lots of insights on all creatures of the coral reef. Very good value, and lots of interesting information for divers and snorkelers.
