Emerson 1F83C-11NP Conventional (1H/1C) Non-Programmable Thermostat, White

I'm buying two of these (split system) to replace a high dollar Ecobee that was installed when I replaced my entire HVAC system a couple of years ago. The Ecobee is attached to the internet and changes temperature settings as it sees fit to make some tree hugging designer happy... you can't figure out why you feel like you're burning up when you discover Big Brother via WIFI has altered your temp settings and is trying to run your life, again. This thermostat (the Emerson) is heat and cool, off or on, fan auto or on and not programable. YOU decide what your thermostat should be set at without reporting to some WIFI connected AI monitor outside your house that continues to try to run your life. The guys are coming to install it Monday, so I'll add to this review after then. Post install: The Emerson thermostats are installed and are up and running perfectly, so now I am disconnected from the net and back in control of my private climate environment and not suffering the dictates of some Orwellian "Big Brother" wannabe.

We just had 2 installed in our home, one for a gas HVAC unit and one for an electric HVAC unit. We replaced two existing thermostats, one old and one new, because they were so darned hard to read! Too dark, especially at night. Had to keep flashlights handy just to read the screens, which were both way too small. These Emersons have large screens that light up briefly when you adjust the temp, but you can also light them up (briefly) via a button at the very top of the unit. You can also keep them lit if you have a certain wire configuration, which I'm not sure we have, but it is an option on the installer menu (need to read the user guide to learn how to access that menu; it's pretty simple). I don't think we would want them lit all the time since the screens are so big and the backlight is so bright. We had a plumber who was onsite to change a faucet install both thermostats. I watched him do it and am glad I didn't try it myself. It took him less than 15 minutes to do each one. I did point out to him, as I was reading the user guide to myself while he installed, that there was a separate setting for gas or electric. Since we had one of each, he made sure he set it correctly, so I'm glad I looked at the instructions. It has occurred to us that, with these new thermostats, we are having to adjust the temp less often. Seems like we were always getting up from whatever we were doing and adjusting the heat or air up or down. It was a way of life, so now that we don't have to do that, we realize the thermostat is regulating the temp and not just a mechanism to turn it on and off. Duh! I would recommend this thermostat if you want a very basic, adjust up or down, select heat or air, be able to read the screen in any type of light unit. No wi-fi or app or voice guide or remote access, just basic manual control.

Easy to use. Affordable

Install was a breeze. Large display, easy to read, easy to set and forget! Has plenty of menu options if you are one to fine tune operation as well. Menu DOES have the 5 minute delay function available, a few said it is not, well it is in the menu to turn on and off. Optional display lighting as well, continuous on or comes on when setting it. For a non programmable thermostat, it has everything you will need. I do not use all the fancy Wi-Fi and programmable stuff, so if you want a good non programmable, one you can actually SEE, this is perfect!! Great deal!!NOTE: I did test the accuracy of the unit for several hours, using an independent, highly accurate thermometer for AC repair.....The accuracy of the temp readouts on the unit were spot on, which is very important when you install a new unit like this. It cycles on/off as designed and programmed thru the menu. A simple unit with accurate readings and operation, not much more you can ask for in this price range.

The media could not be loaded. The installation was simple and I like the thermostats simple yet cleab design. The reason I knocked off 1 star is the price should be closer to $40 than $50 as I don't see what justifies it to be almost $50. Also the backlight in the product image and on the box has a blueish hue when it fact is just normal whiteish backlit hue.

easy to install instructions were easy to understand , All I had to change was the switch from gas to electric system.I like that the display is large and easy to read , nice large buttons , easy to adjust temps . seems accurate , heat shuts off just 1 deg above set temp, and never drops below set temp, ac temps are dead on,What I really like is the battery meter as You can see in the pick . no more guessing battery state good back lighting .wiring was a snap and this one does have the blue common wireTo date I have been thru 3 thermostats, one a white Rodgers that was getting just old and the buttons were wore out, went thru a couple of honey wells that worked for a year then just failed .I highly recommend this if you want a basic thermostat for a 1 heat and 1 cool systema LUX t stat that just had too much temp swing.EDIT be careful cleaning the unit , I tried using some Windex to clean the screen , caused it to short out so i had to buy another , not the products fault .

Works great

As someone who has never installed a digital thermometer and needed to install one in the basement, this was incredibly easy to install. Just watched a couple of basic YouTube videos on installation and it was all set and working in less than 15 minutes.
