They work well, the needles move freely (good bearings), pointing north and with 8 in the bag one or two sticky ones is perfectly acceptable. I left each of them next to a powerful magnet for 15 mins to super charge the magnetism just to be sure. They're dry so there's no fluid to leak out if it breaks in a pocket if you fall heavily out in the wild. At 4 x 1 cm and well printed it's very easy to read yet with no cosmetic structure around it (if all you want it to do is point north) it does fit easily into a pocket. Ideal compass in a toy bag for 3+.
