How are these for the gym or other athletic purposes?

The reason I purchased these was for gym/athletic use. They are mostly cotton with just enough elasticity to make them really comfortable.

I have a 26 inch waist and the spandex version fit a little loose would these fit any better?

I am a 30 inch waist and these fit normal to tight on me, so they may be a little big for a 26 inch waist but probably not that bad given the type of underwear. You’ll probably be fine with these but it’s up to you.

I order size l for 2(x)ist briefs, should also get a l for these thongs or xl?

I'd stick to Large, I wear Large in briefs as well. My first time ordering a set of thongs I went with XL and ended up with a loose pouch.
