Why did you pick this product vs others?: Holy cow!! We have been battling beetles every summer for years, and for the past three years or so, we have bought the Spectracide beetle-in-a-bag setups. This was my first time trying this brand, or any other brand for that matter. And let me tell you - the other brands do not even hold a candle to this one! Within minutes, we had HUNDREDS of beetles from setting up just ONE of the two bags. I’m not even joking! Side note/pro tip - do not do what I did! Make sure that you open and set it up a little bit away from your deck or door! I had never ever had results like that before so, silly me, I stood right outside my door on my deck and started to setup one of the bags, intending to get it situated and then carry it out back into the yard to hang on one of our existing shepherds hooks that we use for them. Well, within seconds of opening the lure up - no joke - I was being swarmed with beetles! It was insane. I actually ran away with the bag at first, not realizing what was happening as that had NEVER happened before. Once I realized it was the lure/bag, I put it down and ran inside to get my significant other for moral support, haha. We were blown away by how effective and quickly they started to work! He hung it up, we killed probably a hundred beetles by hand, and within 20 minutes we had hundreds more in the trap and they just keep coming! The attached photo was taken 20 minutes after opening and setting up the bag. And the video was taken almost exactly 24 hours after opening the set up to hang one bag (EDIT: for some reason, it won’t upload my video and keeps failing)! I will never, ever buy a different brand again! If you are battling beetles (Japanese, garden beetles, the copper colored ones, the brown speckled ones - ANY beetles) - I’m telling you - give these a try! I am SO impressed! Would give 10 stars if I could.

Every time I hang one of these bags (during active Jap. beetle season) I am absolutely swarmed by them. They love the spice scent it puts off. If the sun is shining on it, it's almost not even fair. You can literally stand there, pluck them off the scent holder & drop them into the bag. Last year I hung it closer than I probably should have to some of our plants because I wanted to make sure they stayed away from other plants. This year I moved them 50-100 ft from any landscaping or vegetable plants and I also used three at a time. This year they worked even better. The bugs can get out if you let the bags get anywhere close to half full. As long as it stays below that level, they either can't get out or just don't want to. The other key is to empty out the dead ones. I'm pretty sure they try to get away from that smell. I take a bucket of soapy water with me, open the bag into the suds, and dip it in the water until most of the pile is gone. Then I try to clean as much of the remnants out by hand as I can. They show using a hose but 2 of my bags are too far from a spigot for that to be feasible. We have a lot of wind around our place so the last thing I do to try and mitigate bug loss is- I hang the bags on a shepherd's hook and then tie them with a string to a landscape staple. This keeps them from putting undo stress on the plastic hangers. Great design, great value, works every time. Highly recommend these to anyone looking to get rid of as many Japanese beetles as possible.

Found this product when I was looking up beetles that were decimating the leaves on my crêpe myrtles and rose plants. I must say that this product works so well that I only wish I had found it sooner. I placed the trap out right away an evening after work and within a hour it already captured a few before dark. When I came home for lunch the next day a quarter of the trap was full beetles. Wow! The directions were easy to understand to setup. This is an Awesome product that I would recommend to anyone with beetle problems in your yard or garden.

We only bought two of these and placed them 30 feet away from our fruit producing trees. Set up was pretty easy. Hanging then was easy. We didn't have to wait long for the bags to fill. Pluses are: Chickens will come and gather under the bags for beetles that fall too the ground. So it's a great chicken feed supplement. Beetles collected also make great fish food if you have a pond. The down side of these bags is the Velcro bottom closure. I found after emptying the bags the first time, the beetle poop clogged and weakened the Velcro so that the next time the bag filled, the weight of the beetles caused the bag to open and the beetles happily fell out, flew off, and some found their way back to the lure bags. We solved that issue by rolling up the bottom and securing with some clothes pins. It may be better to hang the bags further away from the plants the beetles love, like 200 - 300feet away. The lures work well, but I think we had less beetles the last couple of years when I hand picked them off. We still have beetles in our plum trees and lots on the grapevines. And they just love my hibiscus. Note that the bags do not actively kill the beetles like some fly traps with water, so make sure you have a way of disposing of them once you have a full bag... And it will get very full, sometimes twice a day.

Holy smokes these worked well! I had my doubt but I found my self dumping these about every other day when I first put them up. I think they started losing their effectiveness after about a month, but I’m still very impressed with how they worked. I will just make sure that I have a couple of extra bait for next year when I put them up so I can swap that out. If you are buying you might figure out a different way to hang other than the twist tie. I ended up using some of the green stretch ties that I use in my garden. That was pretty disappointing to see the bag on the ground when the twist tie failed! I will definitely purchase these again for next year. They saved my pole beans.
