I am using this on a Predator 212cc engine on my golf cart. It doesn't have a governor, so a tachometer to keep the engine from overspeeding is a good idea. I did the 5 wraps on the ignition wire per the instructions. Much to my surprise it worked great. I tested it against my $200 tach that I use to tune chainsaws and it was consistently within 10 RPM or dead on. I'm impressed. For $12 I have a fully functional tach. 5 Stars!!

I bought this to ensure the engine RPM remained within a valid range after I replaced the carburetor. Being able to confirm the engine RPM is reassuring, and the Cumulative Hours of Operation and Hours Countdown Before Scheduled Maintenance features are an added bonus. I am very pleased with this product.The written installation and setup steps were good enough. I took care to wrap the wire tightly around the ignition cable 5 times, keeping it secure with the included zip ties. It takes some care (and more zip ties) to keep the wire away from direct contact with the engine or muffler. I found a place on the dash to stick the meter on using the included double-stick foam tape.Initially I set the mode to 1P2R (1 spark Pulse per 2 Revolutions), but that gave me RPM readings of 6400 at full throttle. So I switched the mode to 1P1R and started getting normal readings of 3200 or so at full throttle.

This was super easy to install and very helpful to know the RPM of the engine and hours of use on a seldom used 13 horsepower, gas, now propane house generator. When doing a gas to propane conversion, it is necessary to adjust the propane flow to the engine under load close to what it was with gasoline for optimum power output. Get one of these before you do the conversion and measure the RPM of your engine at near full load before converting to propane, then you will know about where to set it after the propane conversion is complete.

I'm not convinced that this reads the rpm on my predator 212 accurately. Occasionally the meter will read above the motor's listed governed rpm, but it is a harbor freight motor, so.... it wouldn't surprise me.The one caveat is that I wish it would auto time out and turn off since the battery is not replaceable. After riding the mini I'll find the gauge still on a day or two later. You have to hold both buttons for about 5 seconds simultaneously to shutb the unit off.

Being the neighborhood 'guy who knows about engines and stuff', I had a few mowers show up where the governor spring was pushed back after running into bushes or tree branches. Instead of adjusting speed by ear, this meter was much more accurate. Five wraps around the plug wire and it works every time. Turns on automatically and can be turned off by pressing both buttons simultaneously. Multiple cylinder configuration options allow a broader use. A nice addition to the toolbox.
