THE INSPIRATION: Hurricane Sandy. I live in a coastal community that was impacted by Hurricane Sandy. So many of my neighbor's homes were destroyed. I looked around at all the debris and felt compelled to make something beautiful, "a-lemons-into-lemonade kinda thing". My nephew and I put up the fence in my yard; Sandy took it down. Now a piece of that fencing, repurposed into art, hangs in my living room. It serves as a lasting reminder of the importance of family, community and perseverance. THE PROCESS: We start by stripping the individual slats from the main frame of each fence panel. Second comes the sanding. Lots and lots -did I mention LOTS- of sanding. Next we cut the slats to size and determine to paint or not to paint. More sanding commences..... Once the piece is re-constructed we apply the starfish (seastar to be p.c.) and the boat cleats. Lastly we stand back and admire. This listing is for a new piece that incorporates my love of the beach and of repurposing. The overall size is: 22" x 3.75". The base is turquoise with white peeking through with a deep purple rectangle with a starfish on top. Four 3.5" boat cleats perfect for hanging ties, belts, hats, baseball caps. dog leashes, towels, aprons, etc. Two eyelet hooks on the backside for balanced hanging. This would be a ideal for a nautical nursery. Please specify both the base color and rectangle color in the comments sections.
