About The Honest Kitchen: The Honest Kitchen started in Lucy Postin’s kitchen in 2002 when she started making her dog’s meals from scratch to help combat his ear infections. The physical difference from his new diet was spectacular but her kitchen was a mess. Lucy then realized that dehydrating whole foods made mealtimes much simpler while maintaining the natural health benefits of the ingredients. From there, The Honest Kitchen was born - and her kitchen stayed much cleaner! Today, The Honest Kitchen is on a mission to revolutionize the pet food industry through their obsession with product integrity and commitment to help as many pets as possible get on the road to good health through natural, wholesome proper food.

Made my dogs sick multiple times
My dogs both like these very much but they get diarrhea when they eat them, so much so that they had to go to the vet for meds. I wasn’t sure this was the cause so I waited and introduce this two more times a couple of weeks apart and I get the same results every time. I threw them away.

Company nonresponsive to complaints
I bought both the beef and the turkey topper for our dog for a number of years as he is allergic to chicken. We could smash the cubes with our fingers and put over his food, and then slip the cubes in a kong for after-meal snacks. Over the past six to nine months the product has deteriorated in quality -- the beef became hard and difficult to chew, and the turkey just didn't look the same and was always out of stock. We believe our dog became ill after eating the beef topper. I emailed the company on their website, gave them the lot number, and got absolutely no response. I'm playing it safe and finding another brand.

No question that the Pup loves it
I have been on the hunt for a good topper. My pup got tired of eating just plain dry food so I wound up getting another brand of topper which he liked for over a year and then got tired of it too. I started cooking my own topper and has been doing it for several months now, but then with my very busy schedule it became inconvenient that I have to spend a good amount of time during the weekend preparing the toppers. I decided to get this and there is no question that the pup loves it! Quality food but a little bit pricey for a small amount of topper. It states to feed 2 Tbsp. (for every 20 pound weight) a day and the 5.5 oz bag will probably only last a week and a half at most for a 20 pound dog. With this in mind, the topper alone will cost around $30-$40 a month which is more expensive than a big bag of dry food (which will last you months). I will continue to purchase for now due to the convenience of not having to cook the toppers myself. I will purchase the 14 oz. bag next since I already know the pup likes it.

Good as a treat or a 'topper' -- Update
I got these to try to supplement the taste of the Honest Kitchen dry kibbles, which my dog likes ok but doesn't like as well as when I "doctor" it. So I'm trying not to have to add canned wet food to bribe her to eat her food. These also are good as treats -- she likes them just handed to her.Update: These are good treats; she likes them. They don't do enough to get her to eat her dog food, so I'm still adding some canned to that. I guess what I don't like is how crumbly the bottom 20% of the bag is. For the price, the crumbles aren't usable as treats. I only took off 1star, but you're getting about 10% crumbs.

Proper Topper Turkey would be a staple in my girls diet....except
These are suppose to have all the nutrients our canince family members need for healthy lives. My girls love it! They get very impatient for their food when they see me sprinkle some on top.All that said..... right now I'm running a test to see if one of my girls is allergic to pumpkin--which at least the turkey one has in it. That's the only flavor I've purchased so I'm not sure ofthe other flavors. One of mine has a skin infection that may be caused by a food allergy.Since I've taken them off pumpkin they aren't getting any Proper Topper and I'm left wonderingif I'm giving them all the nutrients they need. I've given up on "dog food" and cook for my girls.Lots of quality protein, vegies and fruits but.... still question I'm giving them everything. Were it not for my questions about pumpkin, I'd highly recommend to all dog families and it wouldbe a staple in my girls' diets.

We're changing out all of our pup's food and treats ...
We're changing out all of our pup's food and treats due to chronic ear infections to see if food allergies are the culprit. So, no grain, beef, etc. Over the course of 2 weeks I bought 10 different bags of allergy free treats and food and offered each one to our 2 year old dog and one by one he walked away and refused to eat this new allergy free diet i was forcing on him until I opened the bag of turkey Proper Toppers. Our dog went crazy! He dances when I get out the bag and then does all his tricks in a row really quickly in hopes of a treat. We've used them as treats and as a topper on his dry. We're going to start adding other Honest Kitchen products and hope he's just as obsessed with those and hope he has no more ear infections!

I'm 100% Satisfied!
My dog LOVES these toppers! I chose the turkey as she prefers poultry. My dog, Wendy, just turned 5 and is on medicine for the rest of her life. Of course, the meds must be taken with meals. Wendy is 33 lbs. but a very light eater, she often eats around 1 cup a day and she won't overeat. So it's a challenge for me to get her to eat, especially in the morning. These toppers are in small bits in capsule-like shapes. They are perfect for tossing in with her food or for treats. I know Honest Kitchen is a quality brand and this product was the greatest quanity for the best price. It only takes 2-3 pieces in with her food to get Wendy to eat a meal. Since this is why I bought this product I'm 100% satisfied!

Excellent for picky eaters!
Excellent product. Great used for treats or a food topper. My dogs LOVE them. My one older dog doesn't have much of an appetite in the morning to eat, and these are the only things that work! I just give him a few as treats to stimulate the appetite, then gradually add them to his food, and he will then eat the food along with the treats I put in there! I also send them with my dogs when boarding in case they don't want to eat. Works every time! I always keep these in stock in my pantry.
