Not quite the same measurements as the LG version
It does fit and works as a replacement for the OEM filter, but the measurements are slightly different.LG: 12 3/16" long, 59.1mm diameterSwift Green: 12 7/16" long, 51.7mm diameterSo the Swift Green is 1/4" longer and 7.4mm (just over 1/4") narrower than the LG. Due to the smaller diameter it will look like the filter is too small and won't fit properly when you go to put it in. Don't worry, it fits, there will just be some space around the filter due to the smaller diameter. It will also take a few seconds to get the inner portion of the filter to line up properly to lock it into place. Once locked in place, it doesn't move and is just fine.My refrigerator is the LG LMX21981ST. It is a counter depth model, so it is shallower than normal. It also has the water and ice maker on the door which take up some of the interior room. All of that combines to mean there is very little space between the filter and the ice maker door when the refrigerator door is closed. The extra length of the Swift Green fits, but it sticks out far enough to hit the ice machine door. I only found out because the main refrigerator doors were making a different sound than normal when they closed and I wanted to find out why.If you're wondering to yourself if your refrigerator is counter depth or not then it probably isn't. I found out when buying mine that even though counter depth units are smaller, because fewer are built and sold they actually cost more. Annoying. From the box, these are the specifications:Max operating temp: 38C/100FMin operating temp: 0.6C/33FMax working pressure: 689 kPa/100 psiMin working pressing: 140 kPa/20 psiRated capacity: 2,271 litres/600 gallons (LG filter is rated for 300 gallons)Flow rate: 1.9 lpm/0.5 gpmEstimated % reduction:Lead - 95%Cysts - 99%Chlorine taste & odor - 95%Turbidity - 95%Asbestos - 95%Atrazine - 95%Alachlor - 95%Lindane - 95%2,4-D - 95%Mercury - 95%Toxaphene - 95%P-Dichlorobenzene - 95%Benzene - 95%It also says it keeps a healthy level of fluoride in the water from fluoridated municipal tap water.Last, when you go to replace this filter there will be a bit more water leakage from the filter when you remove it. It doesn't lock water inside the filter to quite the same degree as the LG filter. If you normally use a towel to catch the drips during a filter change, at the very least double up the towel. A paper towel alone won't suffice. If the area is free, you could also use a bowl or cup to catch the water and then just wipe up the remainder after it finishes draining. Would definitely be easier. If you have a counter depth refrigerator with the ice maker on the door, I recommend sticking with the OEM filter. If not, I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't try this filter.

Read the directions - and then follow them!
I've read through a lot of the reviews, and I think a lot of the problems with poor taste stem from people's unwillingness to run a full 2-3 gallons of water through the filter before using it. With a "standard" activated charcoal filter, one the water stops being cloudy / grey, you are pretty much good to go. However with there filters, I've found that you really need to pre-soak the filter per the directions, and still push a full 2-3 gallons of water through it, even though the water will not appear to be cloudy or anything. I think it is kind of silly to read a review where someone is complaining that the water tastes off, but also saying that they couldn't be bothered to follow the directions. As for cracks / leaks, I'm on my fourth filter from them and have never had any problems - yes the filter is a smaller diameter than the stock one, I don't know if that makes a difference, but I suspect that the original filter is not getting that much support from the bottom of the filter housing either, since tightening the connection would pull it up horizontal and not let it droop down (in our refrigerator, the filter is a horizontal orientation, other models may be different). But as I say, I have not encountered any leaks, so I can only say that not everyone has encountered that problem, even after going through several of these filters.Overall, I think they are great - what little extra fussiness is required during the semi-annual installation process is completely offset for me by getting to pay half price for something that I always despised buying because I knew what a price-inflated ripoff it was. If people feel better about driving to Sears and paying double for the stock filter, they will probably save 10-15 minutes of boring time spent flushing out the filter. However, I'm pleased to have another option, and intend to purchase these filters again in the future.

Pay close attention to the Model Number
I recommend Swift Green Filters. I have a high end french door LG refrigerator. The LG filter runs at about $50 at my local store. These filters are not only cheaper, but environmentally friendly and just as easy to install as the OEM. Pay close attention to the model numbers. For example, my LG filter model is 5231JA2006B. The "B" at the end indicated the filtration level. The "A" version also fits the appliance but will not filter out certain contaminants from the water like the "B". The Swift Green model I purchased was the SGF-LB60. Again the "B" here is what will maintain the higher filtration level that the "B" on the OEM filter does. The Swift Green website will help determine the filter you need. Overall save money and have a Greener filter? Makes sense to me!*Note that the Swift Green Filters recommend soaking the filter in water for 15 minutes and running about 2-3 gallons of water through the filter before first use. Ensure that when you submerge the filter (I did it in my kitchen sink) that you allow all air to come out of the filter so that the inside of the filter activates. The filter will first want to float but with a little help you will notice it beginning to sink. I started timing once the filter was saturated with water.

Just as described
Product is just as described by manufacture as well as other reviewers. Filter is slightly smaller in diameter than the factory original in my LG refrigerator, but it connects perfectly fine. Not to mention the Swift water filter is a fraction of the price to that of the LG replacement. For the price it was well worth the try. I have been using it for two weeks now and my water taste great and the sediments in my water that I was getting with old over due filter are gone (I have extremely hard water where I live). The only thing I did not understand and there is no explanation from Swift is that it requires you to soak filter in water for 15 minutes prior to installation... Don't know why this has to be done..

The product does not meet the standards that it states here
The product does not meet the standards that it states here:The Amazon description states:"The filters are NSF Certified which ensures consumers clean and safe drinking water. The filters are tested and certified by NSF International to NSF, ANSI Standard 42 for the aesthetic reduction of chlorine taste and odor. As well as nominal particulate Class I and Standard 53 for the reduction of Atrazine, Lindane, Lead, Turbidity, and Cysts".However, the box description and product label states:"This model is tested and Certified by WQA according to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material requirements only". THere is no mention of Standard 53 at all which is the important Standard that reduces health-related contaminants (source: Under 'Filtration', [...]
