Peaceful motion in average home lighting. Conversation starter. A hemisphere of thirteen motorized, solar-powered elements hung from an acrylic disc. Lighting: in typical home lighting (>200 lux) elements may twitch every minute. In typical office lighting (1000 lux) elements are in constant motion, oscillating. In bright light near a window (10,000 lux) elements spin forward constantly. In direct sun, elements spin at a few hundred rpm (not recommended.) Installation: Usually hung from the ceiling near a light using a small screw hook, or temporarily a pushpin. Weighs 28 grams (5 US nickels.) Do not install near a hot lamp or in a draft. Install above head high. Indoor use only. Installing in direct sunlight shortens the life. Use a spotlight for good effect. Durable: handle like any artwork, but it usually survives being dropped. Lifetime: many years, depending on where you install it. Only the motors might wear out, and they are rated 2000 hours MTTF for nearly continuous spinning. Thus in full sun it lasts about six months, but in typical use it might last a lifetime. Warranty: Ninety days. Safe: low power, low voltage, glass solar cells but with dull edges, free of lead (Pb), and no batteries. Made using green methods and components. Caution: Keep out of reach of children and not above a crib or playpen. Elements are a choking hazard. Shipping and storage: unpack carefully using instructions in the box. May require untangling. See on YouTube under Solabile, a trademark. Patented. In the photos, solar cells were covered with blue paper. The solar cells are dark purple-brown and the motors are silver.
