Not worth wasting money..
Yes, It is good for practising, but NOT good for a beginner. I have 20+ years of experience playing the violin. The instrument has many disadvantages, starting with the pieces of the violin. The sound quality is ok. The items included are cheap (eg rosin, shoulder pad, headphones).Steps to make the instrument better:1. Get better strings: the strings that come w/ the violin will make your fingers bleed. For a seasoned pro like me that is sad because I have well broken-in fingers with both the violin and cello!2. Change the tail/bridge/chin rest/pegs: The material it is made of gives a weird vibration when played. It does reduce frustration! Especially with the pegs!3. Spend the money to get fine tuning pins. This will help in the tuning process! Again, less frustration!4. Get a new bow!! WOOD is best! Cheap bows will sound like...well cheap.5. The weight is heavy. You may want to consider this if you are buying this for a child.Make sure you read the reviews!! You get what you pay for! If you want quality....buy something $200 or more. These $80 violins are exactly what you are paying for...cheap!

You get what you pay for?!
It is a cheap price and a fairly cheap violin. The pegs have a hard time staying in place even after trying their suggestions. The amp is so so. The bow is actually pretty good. The e string broke almost immediately even with a violin teacher tuning and trying to get it working right for her. Still working with it but overall pretty disappointing.

red?
when I originally bought this, the description said red, not red/pink. fuchsia is probably the best description of it. not a big problem if this is what you're buying, but worth knowing. the red in the picture is definitely not representative.after adding fine tuners to the other three strings and getting some peg fluid to lock the tuning pegs better, the usability improved. a shoulder pad also helped. the internal amp helps, but it is surprisingly loud without it.

Fun toy for cheap, and not a bad starter violin
I like to pick up a new instrument every few years and work on classical techniques until I am good enough to play the advanced college-level pieces considered standard for the instrument. I had violin lessons for a couple of years in my youth, and I bought this electric violin to refresh what I knew. It works very well for this purpose. It is much more quiet than a standard violin, and since I live in an apartment, that's a big plus.If you or your child want to play violin, I recommend buying this item IF...1) You are willing to become interested enough to help them set it up and get it playable. You will want to buy 4 fine tuners which attach at the bridge. They're extremely easy to install, but I wouldn't expect younger students to do it alone. Takes less than 5 minutes.2) You have experience with music already and want to explore the sound production techniques with the violin (meaning, like me, you just enjoy practicing and refining your mind/body control through concentration).3) You are a complete novice, but still willing to throw down $89 for an instrument in order to test the waters and see if playing violin feels as magical as you imagine. The price of this instrument is equal to about 4 - 8 lessons. $90 isn't much to pay for a chance at a musical odyssey, and if you feel that isn't true, I recommend you do not purchase this item.4) You live in an apartment and want a practice instrument that will not annoy your neighbors.Just about any music teacher will be very critical of the instrument if you or your child walks in with this violin intent on taking a lesson. If your goal is to play the classical literature for the instrument in an ensemble setting, or at an advanced competitive level, you should start with a standard wood instrument. The amplification is fine for me, but I don't use it much. I wanted to train my fingers and my relative pitch on the instrument, and it works perfectly for that. It still sounds like a violin without amplification, so you don't have to have it if you want to practice.Best of luck to you! Be patient, concentrate, and try to play pretty :)

Bad
They should say that its a toy and the type of material its made of. It definitely doesn't look like the picture once you get it. And the quality is not good. I don't recommend it.

Fell apart within weeks
I've never had a violin before and thought this would be the one to start out on. It could of been cause I have never handled a violin in my life or that it just wasn't a good violin but it fell apart within weeks.
