Review: Both product and vendor - A couple months ago I decided to resurrect an old HP laptop that had a hard drive failure. R&R'd the hard drive, stuck Linux on it while preserving the original dead Windows partition. Has worked like a champ for a couple months. One of these days I'll get around to mounting that dead Windows partition and poke around. My PS4 hard drive failed. I've also been watching SMART status on my HP replacement, it's not pretty. So I ordered 2 of these drives. Put one into my PS4, works like a champ. Still too chicken to R&R the hard drive in a (badly) working laptop, even though said laptop gets backed up every night. So, 2 out of 3 are 100% winners, and the third one is unknown due to my cowardice.

I ordered this unit as a replacement (same hard drive but twice the capacity. I found the entire clone and swap out process to be simple, quick and efficient. The unit has been running successfully ever since the clone and swap out. I used a piece of freeware recommended by Kim Komando for cloning and a You Tube video to perform the swap out....easy, quick and effective. The unit is currently running like a dream.

A: If the satellite c685-s7101 uses a 2.5 inch hard drive, this should work just fine.

**Q: what is the warranty term?**
A: I do not know. I ask the seller or manufacturer. But I assume it has a warranty from the manufacturer as long as it is new.

**Q: Compatable for toshiba mq01abd100 scsi disk device?**
A: Unsure as I believe scsi is dated technology now.

**Q: Does this 2.5 inch hdd use conventional magnetic recording (cmr) or shingled (smr)? anyone replaced it with a larger 1.5-2 tb replacement that's cmr?**
A: This one should be CMR.

This is important if the drive is supposed to be used as a storage for video surveillance. These workloads make SMR drives barf badly when the drive becomes full and new video files have to overwrite old ones.
The same workloads kill SSDs awfully fast, because drive is always full and constantly overwrites existing blocks.
