Bright and compact but lack of clear documentation is an issue for me.
This lantern comes with no instructions at all. There are a few sentences on the box but nothing I would call instructions. The lantern itself is pretty small but seems durable although it is plastic and not metal. It has metal hanging or carrying handles though. There is a place to insert two AA batteries and there is a solar panel to charge the unit that way. What I don't understand is why it comes with a plug. Is that to charge something or is that another way of fueling the lantern? I plugged the lantern in and saw no indication that it was doing anything so I assume it is another way for the lantern to get power. But I really have no idea since it was not mentioned in the listing and not on this page either. It also says you can charge a phone or other USB device and does have a USB port. But elsewhere on the box, it says "Dc charging. please do not use a mobile phone charging in order to avoid too much electricity damage the phone. (sic)" So does this mean you should not charge your phone when the batteries are inserted? DC power is battery power. I THINK the manufacturer means not to charge when using AC power - electricity. But I don't know. I only have the lines on the box to go by.So it appears that this lantern has three power sources. You can use batteries, you charge it in the sun, or you can plug it in. The plug is extremely short though so you would have to be very near an outlet to use that. Certainly the cord is not charging anything because the batteries I used are not rechargeable and you can't charge solar powered items with a charger. Solar powered things are charged by the sun, hence the name "solar powered". So I am going with the included cord being another way to fuel the lantern.Speaking of the lantern, you must pull gently up on the canister top reveal the light. It is very bright with no dimmer switch. It's small but does give off a lot of light. For how long, I don't know. Whether it uses solar power first then battery juice when that runs out, I don't know. Whether the included plug is, indeed, a way of making the lantern an AC charged one, I think so but am not sure. Whether you should charge your phone or other device when the lantern is plugged into an outlet, from what I can surmise, no. It could damage the phone. I guess you can charge the device when it is using solar power or battery power (although the box says otherwise) safely. I wouldn't chance it and would not attempt to charge my phone with the lantern. The thing is, this is actually a really bright, compact little unit. It may not be the most durable since it is plastic but it doesn't seem to be flimsy. The entire issue I have is the complete lack of any documentation except a few sentences scattered on the box. I don't need a huge owners manual for a simple lantern but it would be nice to clear up the questions I have, I would hate for anyone to charge their phone while the lantern was plugged in only to find their phone is damaged because they missed a tiny line on the bottom of the box that sort of warned them not to to charge when using DC power which I believe is supposed to say AC power, power that apparently is a "bonus power source".Still I have been using the lantern and it is bright and consistent and doesn't flicker. The lantern lit up when I got it and I had no batteries in it nor was it plugged in. It had not been in the sun since I got it. I like this lantern but I'm confused. I intend to try to get some info from the manufacturer then add to this review in case anyone else is a bit confused. A simple sheet with a few facts about the unit would go a long way toward understanding how it draws power and from which source it does it. I am assuming the batteries are a back up for when the lantern runs out of solar power. And the AC cord is for times when you are near an outlet and don't want to use up your solar or battery juice. Assuming though, kind of stinks because, if we take this lantern into the woods where we go camping and we assumed wrong, it may not function as we expect. For now I am going with 3 stars. I DO like how bright it is and how light and small it is. It just needs a bit of documentation to clear things up for me and for me to give it a higher rating. I don't want to be down-voted because I am dumb which I certainly may be when it comes to this lantern but I promised an honest review and I wrote one. Crazy as it all sounds. If you have clear information about this lantern that I missed or just don't know, please comment here and let me know. I would appreciate it!Disclaimer: I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my evaluation and honest review. As you can see I did evaluate the lantern and did honestly review it. I like it, it's bright and compact. But before I venture into the woods camping with it, I would like to know if uses solar power first then relies on batteries or, if batteries are inserted, it draws from those. And don't get me started about the phone charging aspect. But in all, this is a very bright lantern right out of the box.

Great lantern that gives off a bright light
This portable solar powered camping lantern really does work great. It gives off a nice bright white LED light (360 degree bulb) that can clearly be seen even from a good distance away. It is collapsible, hang-able, great for indoor or outdoor use and can be charged by the sun, 3 AA batteries, or an outlet. The cord that was included is very short so you will have to charge the lantern very close to an outlet. This lantern really will help light your way in the dark of the night. I recently used it while on our yearly family camping trip and it worked every time i went to use it without fail. This lantern is small, compact and made with durable plastic. This lantern is great for camping, hiking, emergencies, power outages and much more. This lantern has come in handy quite a few times and I plan on buying a few more. I am very impressed both with the quality and the performance of this product.I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest unbiased review.

Compact and very bright.
This is a nice compact little lantern that gives off a lot of light! There are no instructions included, but it's fairly simple to use.I've been letting mine sit on the windowsill to gain its power from the sun, and there is a tiny red light that comes on so I'm assuming that means it is charging. You can also use batteries and it has a plug as well, but the pull of this for me was the solar power option. To use it, you simply pull up on the two metal handles. It opens itself up and the light will immediately turn on. I absolutely did not expect it to be as bright as it is. I have a Coleman wall plug chargeable led flashlight and is on par with that, except it also illuminates a larger area than a flashlight beam. This would be a great addition to an emergency kit in case of power outage, camping, even taking the dog out at night. My only concern is the plastic and if it happened to fall onto cement or tile. It seems well made but I don't know how well it would withstand an impact. All in all, for its small size it gives off pretty powerful lighting. I wish there were instructions as to if it would be OK to use in the rain, and why bother with a wall charger when it's solar?I received this item at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
