Q: Looks like it requires a special device to tighten the screw ... am I correct?

That is correct. There is no special tool with it. I believe it needs one. On one video they called the screw type 'ufo' screw. When mine arrived they were catching, so I guess it needs tightened from what I've seen. I'm not a pro.
