Bag Butler® Original Lawn & Leaf Bag Holder for 30-42 Gal Bags USA Made

This has to be one of the BEST purchases I've made in all of the hundreds (thousands?) of items I've purchased through Amazon. At first, I was hesitant about how well this "As Seen On TV" item would really work, but let me say that I was surprised and EXTREMELY PLEASED!!! Words just do not do justice to how well this one flat piece of plastic with handle holes and two creased sides actually performed as well as advertised. Not only does it work exactly as advertised for cleaning up leaf piles (and THANK GOODNESS), but also, I tried the alternate use for my messy kitchen garbage. We have a LOT of kitchen trash and rather constantly having to change 13gal kitchen bags, we kept an ugly 30gal can in the bottom of our pantry for convenience and economy. It's truly amazingly simple, too. For outside use, you just fold the Bag Butler 'against the preformed creases' which gives it tension, then insert in INSIDE the open plastic bag, which instantly holds the plastic lawn and leaf bags open, lay it on the side and either rake or scoop the leaves or debris inside, then sit it up and tie the top. Also, if you have a lawn mower with a bagger, it's so easy to stand up the Bag Butler and empty the bagger into it. For messy debris or kitchen trash where you don't want to get the Bag Butler yucky, you basically do the same thing with setup, except you open the plastic bag and put it INSIDE the Butler and fold the top edges of the bag up over the Bag Butler's 3 sides. The tension of the Bag Butler holds the bag open and since it's on the OUTSIDE of the bag, it stays clean. If it does ever get dirty, or you just want to clean it occasionally, just hose it down and wash it like any other plastic item and dry it. So very simple. I can't wait to show this to everyone I know. With my parents and brother who live next door to each other on two acres of oak and pecan trees, they'll LOVE this. For OUR small yard, though, I think my next step will be to convince hubby to run the easily gathered leaves through the mulching part of his leaf blower/vacuum/mulcher so instead of having so many bags at the curb, we'll only have one or two. I never write reviews for ANYTHING, but this thing has worked great for me for 8 years. I've just ordered another (2026). It finally cracked due to use and years of weather exposure stored in an outdoor shed. Every year since 2018, I've used this to collect leaves, thatch, sticks, and all sorts of yard debris. I LOVE it. I use 50 gallon contractor bags with the built in " handles" (elsewear on amazon) with reusable wire ties. I can fit 9 bags in the back of my Sorento, and make agout 10 trips to the dump in the fall. Several more in the spring with wet leaves and thatch in the spring. This thing is so easy to use and has made my yard cleanup a breeze. Perfect size to use with a metal rake. Love it, and so glad I could find it again to replace the old one. Highly recommend.

Great purchase, yard work is not my joy but this is brilliant. I can stand it upright and drop my refuse from my flower beds or leaves and it's so easy to use. Highly recommend.

Hated having to constantly open lawn bag (or wait for someone) time after time and let me not mention the process on a windy day, ugh! Wind closes it after I had it opened/almost opened, etc. .... I didn't know this existed. I found it while searching for 'something' to hold bag open/make yard work easier. ... I liked it's not a large bag/barrel to drag around yard then dump or pull/struggle to remove full bag of debris out of. ... Truthfully, I ordered with low expectations. However, it's really great! It's so useful, hubby, who thinks most things are waste of $/not needed, has commented it was a good buy and (he) uses it regularly! ... Have mostly use it upright to (literally) throw things in (even from a short distance away) but have on occasion use it laying on ground to rake into. It works equally well. .... I do wish there was a larger version since we use 50-gal bags which cause loose fit/smaller opening than if bag was recommended size. However, it still works fine. (Didn't know bag used were larger or wouldn't have bought, so glad I didn't know bc it still works well.) ... PLEASE MAKE 50-GAL SIZE. ... For the price (and from picture) I thought it was a 2 pk, so disappointed only one. ... Overall good design: Handles in right place for easy insert/carry/removal, strong/rugged material, light weight/portable yet weighty/steady against wind/raking/throwing things in without falling over/moving from position, easy to use/store away and to wipe/rinse if ever needed. ... Be careful to open correctly, so not only it works as intended but also to maintain the 'spring back' affect which is what holds bag open. Hubby has opened/folded it incorrectly a few times now has less 'spring back', and the folding sections appear less durable, e.g., if folded wrong way many times could cause folded section to loosen/break off. Hard to describe but if you buy, you'll understand what I'm trying to describe. ... Maybe an actual coil spring could be used to enhance durability/minimize incorrect folding. .... A LITTLE THING THAT WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

My husband dumps lawn clippings into a bag I hold. It was often difficult to get the bag around the bagger to catch all of the grass. This was even more difficult if done by one person. I tried a couple of other bag holders where the bag slipped into a frame. It was then clipped at the top. The problem with these was the weight added while filling pulled the bag from the clips. Since these didn't work for us the design of the Bag Butler seemed like a solution. I eagerly tried it out and it works! The three sided Bag Butler slips into the bag to firmly hold it open. I fold the tops of the bags over the Bag Butler for a wide rectangular opening. Even the forth unsupported side stays open with the 30 gallon lawn bags I used. With this size bag the fit is snug enough to hold the shape but not too tight to damage the bag. Once filled, the Bag Butler easily slips out. The instructions say for messy trash to put the Bag Butler on the outside and fold the bag over the top. Since the Bag Butler is made from durable plastic it would be easy to clean if your trash wasn't too bad. By leaving the Bag Butler slightly above the bag it can be laid on its side for a wide flat opening to rake or sweep directly into. There are also slots at the top of each side to make moving it around easier. The only down side I found is the Bag Butler adds weight when moving the bag but this is to be expected. Making the Bag Butler lighter would sacrifice the durability and support it provides so no points will be deducted for that. The Bag Butler would also be a good extra large trash container for group gathering. Great innovating thinking went into designing Bag Butler.

Update: We've been using this for a few years now and it's still one of my favorite yard tools for its simplicity and effectiveness. It's so easy to use and once the leaves are raked in a pile, it only takes about a minute per bag to shove the leaves in. Filled 24 bags of leaves on my own yesterday in just under 90 minutes with the Bag Butler. Took a full day last year without it. It is very simple to use. It's a heavy duty rubber product with 2 creases. The creases are set to easily fold in one direction. To use it, fold the creases in the opposite direction, hold them together using the convenient handles while you stick the bag over the bottom of the Bag Butler...the release the handles and the Bag Butler tries folding the flaps the other way...but the bag is now in the way and they hold the sides of the bag open. After that 10 seconds of getting the Bag Butler in position, just tip it on its side, and get on your knees and just shove the leaves into the bag. Filling up each bag only takes about a minute. Then gently stand the bag and Bag Butler straight up and down and lift the bag butler out of the bag. Tie it off and you're done. I've tried both 30 and 39 gallon bags and the 30 seems to work a bit easier, though I had no issues using 39 gallon bags. It does say that if you use paper bags that you should use the bag butler standing up, in which case you'll lose some of the benefit of just shoving the leaves into the bag. A very nifty product and one that has saved me a ton of time both this year and for many years to come.

There are negative reviews for this product claiming you must tie the handles together to prevent it from falling flat. If you are folding this in the correct direction and inserting it into the bag properly it has a spring type action that will hold the bag open. The correct direction is opposite of what you are doing if the item immediately falls flat! If you fail to fold this on the correct side it will continue to flatten out. That would be user error. I am on my second leaf butler , my first one lasted about two years before breaking at the folds. I have three acres of a well treed yard so this gets quite the workout each fall. I have found this to be very helpful because I can sweep the leaves directly into the bag without constantly bending over & having to lift leaves up into a bag. I plan to purchase another when this one breaks because it makes my job exponentially easier. I have a bad back and constant bending isn’t good. With this I only have to bend when the bag is as full as I want it to be. Read and follow instructions and you’ll appreciate the utility of this product.

I was very excited about this product before I ordered it. From the ad images, it looked like it was the solution to all the common problems I have when working by myself to fill the large, outdoor trash can liners with yard waste. It would stand the bag sturdily upright for filling from a full lawnmower bagging attachment, a leaf mulcher/leaf blower bag attachment, or for sweeping yard waste into the bag while lying flat on the ground. The solid internal walls created when standing a trash bag upright should also help reduce risk of tearing the bag with any tool used to crush yard waste down inside the trash bag by proving a smooth rigid surface to work against when extracting a tool. Without this surface on three sides, the tools used to do this often catch on the bag itself when being pulled out and rip holes. The top corners of the "wings" of this bag holder are rounded and smooth so that they do not catch and tear the bag when the trash bag holder is removed. (*Note, this product has a proper top and bottom: the top has the hand grip holes and they should be at the top when a trash bag is stood upright. Inserting the product upside down into a trash bag just makes it a little less easy to remove from a full trash bag. Be careful inserting the bad holder as the bottom corners are not rounded and can tear the bag if being carelessly inserted.) When the product arrived, it came as a single, solid, flat, piece of plastic material. There are two "wings" connected to a larger single, flat, center piece that allow for some flexing back and forth. The wings are connected to the center piece along flexible, plastic-welded seams. When gently bent in the correct direction, the wings use their flexing seams to try to return to their original flat position and pull against the tensile strength of the trash bag material. Basically, the wings fold very easily in one direction and not easily in the other. The more difficult direction is the way to bend when inserting into a trash bag to create the rigid open bag shown in the ad images. The instructions enclosed state that you are supposed to fold the wings backward toward the face of the centerpiece with the image on it. This makes sense because this is opposite the direction of the natural fold along the seams and creates the tension that holds a flimsy trash bag rigidly open. In my case, the left side wing snapped off along the entire length of the centerpiece when I tried to fit the trash bag holder into the first trash bag of the day. It left a jagged edge along that seam which caused me issues later on. Normally, I would have just scrapped the product, rated it accordingly, and then moved on with my life. But I was really trying to get a jump on this year's autumn leaves on that particular weekend and I had to press on and use the trash bag holder with only one wing. I needed to make progress that day and I could not wait for another delivery. I knew in doing this, a return would not be appropriate and I would have to settle with the $30+ partial solution. I have to admit that despite breaking as soon as I tried to use it, this product still was a big help to working by myself in the yard collecting and compressing mulched leaves from my lawn mower bagging attachment and my leaf blower/mulcher. Hence, the 3 star rating. I have to give credit where it is due and the unbroken seam on the unit I purchased held that entire weekend and the product still saved me lot of headaches working while by myself. The primary drawbacks to using the the damaged product were that it a) did not keep the bag taught and open all the way until the bag was at least half full, and b) the jagged edge of the broken seam regularly tore holes in the bag when being puled out. I have to move carefully when inserting or removing the bag holder from the bag to avoid catching the bag and creating tears. This is annoying but not a show stopper. I am disappointed in the product having an immediate failure on one the wing seams the first time I tried to insert it into a trash bag, but it still saved me a lot of time overall. I used the extra large 40 gallon size trash bags too, so I don't think I was over-stressing the seams when trying to put the holder inside one. These particular bags may have just been taller to create the additional volume, so the failure on my larger capacity bags does NOT mean that this trash bag holder won't necessarily fit into the typical 30 gal black outdoor trash bags. It should work just fine. Just be careful when flexing against the plastic seams to insert into a trash bag or you might have a similar material failure to what I experienced. I am not sure if I will purchase this product again. Perhaps a different brand. The concept is great and I'm sure it works when the product is undamaged but leaf season is not over where I live.Just not sure I want to take the risk again.
