What are the dimensions of this case?

Approximately 5 inches by 5 inches.  Height varies with ammo.  The 9 mm case is 1.5 inches; .38 cal/357 magnum is 2.0 inches; NATO 5.56/.223 is 3 inches.  (Those are the cases I have, but those should handle most ammunition.

Question 2

Why take ammo out of the box in which it came to put in another box?

Buy ammo in 1000 round bulk !
Buying by the 50 round box just showes how little You know about guns !!!

Question 3

How well does it snap lock? Has anyone try a test drop to see if it'll break open?

It locks. I have not tested it, but lets just say their is no way in hell this thing would survive any sort of drop. I also don't think it was made to be dropped, just for ammo storage is a neat box.

Question 4

Is this box acceptable for airline travel ? I know it has to be in a checked bag and declared, but is the box acceptable ?

Ammunition

Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.
    Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm. Read the requirements governing the transport of ammunition in checked baggage as defined by 49 CFR 175.10 (a)(8).
    Small arms ammunition (up to .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge) must be packaged in a fiber (such as cardboard), wood, plastic, or metal box specifically designed to carry ammunition and declared to your airline.
    Ammunition may be transported in the same hard-sided, locked case as a firearm if it has been packed as described above. You cannot use firearm magazines or clips for packing ammunition unless they completely enclose the ammunition. Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be boxed or included within a hard-sided, locked case. 
    Please check with your airline for quantity limits for ammunition.
