Hansshow Power Trunk Kit for Tesla Model 3 2017 2018 2019 2020 Kit Electric Trunk Install Tailgate，Electric Auto Close Switch Remote Control (V7 Version)

I installed the Hansshow power trunk in my 2018 Tesla Model 3. However, I received the wrong CAN bus harness. Fortunately, I managed to contact Ailsa via Amazon messaging. She was very responsive and sent me the correct harness via FedEx.The power trunk was such a great addition so I decided to install it on my wife's 2018 Model 3. Hoping to avoid the CAN bus problem, I ordered directly from the Hansshow website, where I could indicate my Model year. Believe it or not, I received the wrong CAN bus again! Ailsa to the rescue. I contacted her and she was again responsive, updating me regularly and sending me the correct CAN bus.Some insights about installation: If you are comfortable doing simple work around the house like basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical work or have worked on cars before, this is very doable. I would recommend watching lots of videos on YouTube where you will discover tips and tricks for the installation. Take notes and take your time.

This product was great at first! I had to search around to find someone to install it. The install was very involved. Took all day but it was integrated beautifully into the system! It even worked for well over a year and then suddenly it didn’t. The struts were too weak to lift the trunk. I took it back to the installer and the person didn’t work there anymore. They studied the issue for two days and couldn’t get it fixed. Ultimately they said if I could get a new module, they could replace the bad parts. So that is where things get ugly.There is a two year warranty on the parts. When you reach out to Hansshow, they direct you to WhatsApp or twitter or Instagram. You will get an initial response where they ask for your receipt and a video of the issue. Then they ghost you. I have sent messages every few days for over a month. They just ignore you. I have now spent over a $1300 only to have to restore my Tesla back to the factory condition. It is so disappointing. Do not buy this unless you are willing to enjoy it for a year or less. I am seeing Reddit reviews saying they same thing happen to them. I am not the only one.Update: They started responding after I sent an angry message. Every few days for the past week, they send a random request. Examples. Please send a picture of the strut part number”. I send that and then they ask for the plug that goes into the control box. I asked where the control box is and they stopped responding. Well now that I had the entire thing uninstalled, I sent pictures of all the parts and plugs. Let’s see what they do. You don’t want this. It’s SO not worth the trouble. Save your money and get the $35 struts that lift your trunk all the way. You can find them at RPM Tesla.

This kit components are really good, high quality and contains all the non-standard tools and supplies you need for a professional install; however, the instructions are very basic and nowhere near detailed enough for a successful install. Pics are low resolution and difficult to interpret. Video instructions are “happy path” with experts that have done this many times. Many important details and potential challenges are missing from instructions so you will need the Internet and YouTube to install this. However, it’s doable and the kit works perfectly. For me, I liked the challenge so it was worth the frustration and hours of lost time on the Internet.

UPDATE - 12/6/23 - Shorty, after I wrote this original review, I was able to get Hansshow to sell me a new set of struts with full shipping from China as well as NO guarantee. Then had to pay to have those to be installed, go through steps to update the control box, which was a pain in the a&&. But the same thing started happening again last month, only 6 months after the new struts and update. I had to contact Hansshow in China, again and update the control box again. It is a pain as you have to download the file they send you onto a VERY small mini SD card - 8gb or smaller. I couldn't find one in any store and had to order ON AMAZON and wait for it to be delivered. Then you have to disassemble the trunk lining, pull out the control box, go through the steps of updating it and cross your fingers it works. It did update and work again, but I'm not confident in how long it will last. Next time, I may just have it uninstalled.This was a great product until it wasn’t. I had this auto trunk lift professionally installed on my model 3. It worked great for many months and then just stopped operating properly. Nothing damaged it or anything, it just started malfunctioning. It first would open and then click back shut right away. Then it would open part-way and stop. It won’t close and only way to get the trunk closed now is to force it and it won’t close all the way so now I have a unusable trunk. I’ve been writing back and forth with Hansshow customer service but they are in China and it takes forever because of the time difference. They want to help me at 1am pst. Also they are often non-responsive and I have to message them multiple times to get a response. The company that installed it for me moved out of the city so, I’m just waiting and waiting for customer service. Sucks.

I bought the kit for my 2018 model 3. The kit works with one minor exception. One of the harness that came with the kit didn’t fit with my 2018 model. I contacted the seller and they were very responsive. They found the harness the fits 2018 model and sent it to me directly from China. It took awhile to get here, but I was impressed with how responsive the seller were. Kudos to Allen. The take away here is, if you are buying this kit for a 2018 model 3, let the seller know before hand. Love my new power trunk….

0 stars if possible. Followed all the instructions on how to install this kit. Final steps of testing only to find out the latch motor started overheating and smoking. This kit almost set my whole car on fire. Gets worse from there. Contacted Hansshow support and they were zero help. They wanted me to send them detailed step by step pictures and video via whatsapp. I asked them to send a replacement as this was purchased less than a week prior to install. Hansshow support just ended up ghosting me and stopped responding. Do yourself a favor and avoid buying this garbage product from a company that is only concerned about getting your cash. Luckily for me, I was able to send this package back as it was within the return period and got all my money back. Imagine if you bought from Hansshow directly? Kiss your hard earned money goodbye. AVOID HANSSHOW if you can!!
