TRENDnet 56K Internal PCI Data,Fax and TAM Modem, TFM-PCIV92A

It's reasonably priced, and does its job. I don't normally use dial-up, but it can be useful on those rare occasions when there is a problem with router, etc. I had some problems installing, but not sure what the problem was. First install attempt resulted in computer not seeing modem at all. Pulled it out and re-installed and everything worked fine. Still, it only took maybe 15 minutes start to finish.

I installed this PCI FAX modem in my 64-bit Windows 7 computer, and it works. The hardware installs just as the "Quick Installation Guide" says: Install the drivers from the CD-ROM first, then install the FAX modem hardware. What neither the "Quick Installation Guide" nor the "User's Guide" on the CD-ROM say is that there is FAX and phone software and where to find it. It happens to be on the CD-ROM, hidden among cryptically named folders: QIG - Quick Installation Guide (also supplied in hard copy) UG - User's Guide (obsolete - how to install & uninstall drivers) Tools/ Classic_Phone/ start.exe - installer and instructions for installing "Classic Phone Tools" by BVRP The tech support personnel in the Philippines are hopelessly ignorant about the software or where it is or where to find any documentation, and they are NOT available 24/7 as Trendnet's website claims. Optionally, one can use the bare-bones FAX and Scan utility built into Windows. The modem shows up in the printer list of any Print panel as "Fax". If you choose to use it, it may help to know that the .tif file that is shown as an attachment is actually the image of the outgoing FAX. This product works, but its intructions and tech support are in need of major improvement. BTW, tech support seems most interested in getting your name, email address, and phone no. If you don't like giving out information about yourself to data brokers, fakes of those items will do just fine. DAlden, Los Angeles

I purchased two of these to handle automatic dialing of 2 phone lines in one Windows computer. They were very easy to setup and work great. Windows-7 drivers are available on the TrendNet web site and they work (64 bit in my case). Windows update even did an additional automatic update. Getting 2 cards to get along in one computer was simple. Just set one to be COM1 or COM3 and set the other to be COM2 or COM4. (If I remember correctly, you cannot use COM1 and COM3 simultaneously and you cannot use COM2 and COM4 simultaneously.) If you're looking for a PCI Fax/Modem for any Windows computer, these are probably the best value you can find. My modem came with a CD that includes an Avanquest application called "BVRP Classic PhoneTools V9.00" - Fax and Phone from your Computer - Fax directly from your PC - Make Phone Calls from PC - Turn your PC into an answering machine - Organize Contacts - Automatic Modem Detection - [...] I checked with an Avanquest customer support representative and they indicate that it will not work with Windows-7 x64: "I sincerely apologize however I am showing it is not compatible with Windows 7 operating system. It can only work with Windows 2000, Windows Millenium, Windows XP, Windows 98 SE, Windows Vista 32-bit." I haven't verified that it will not work on Windows-7 or 64 bit OSes. Perhaps someone else can comment on this as I won't be trying out that application myself. In a previous version of my review, I stated that this is not a "voice modem" and others commented that it IS a voice modem. So, I posed that question to a TrendNet customer support representative and I got this response: ____3/8/2011 4:00:13 PM ____Norman Heilman (Technical Support Rep) ____" Dear Customer, ________The modem is not a full voice modem. The modem only has TAM functions and not voice capabilities." So, this modem is a TAM enabled modem which stands for "Telephone Answering Machine". Since it does not fully comply with the V.253 and IS-101 voice standards, it will not have features that one would expect from a voice modem. Finding good information on this topic is not easy. The best references I was able to find are on Wiki (search for Voice_modem_command_set) and on concelsys.com (include voice_modems in your search) I have been using two of these modems for 3 months now and I highly recommend it if is has the feature set that you need. Unless you are looking for something that will allow you to plug a head set into your computer and use your computer as a phone, these are likely exactly what you need. They are also a great value.

I have an old HP pavilion tower that didn't have a modem jack. My fax machine died so I opted to try a hardware installation using the Trendnet internal pci product - installation was a total no brainer, and combined with freeware I found on the internet called "Classic Phone Works" I was able to install this quickly on my Vista Home Premium (my version of VHP does not have Win Fax) and begin faxing right away. I plugged my house telephone cord into the left side of this modem, and the line out to the wall using the right sided jack. If you have never done a hardware installation, this is a good place to start. It comes with a driver disk so I didn't need to hunt the drivers down online. Good deal.

I was upgrading my old computer system and decided to throw in a Windows 7 compatible modem. I was happy with my old U.S. Robotics Software Faxmodem USR5660A, but it was strictly for Windows XP with no new drivers available. It always connected at 45.2K or 44K baud and has a speaker on board. The Trendnet modem seemed a good deal. But it would not connect at more than 33.6K baud. It has no onboard speaker and directs the dialtone and dialup to a sound card. The problem is it does not necessarily direct the audio to the DEFAULT audio card, and there is no way to get it to direct output to the sound card of your choice. I have a sound "card" built into the motherboard plus a pro-recording ASIO sound card. The darn Trendnet modem kept outputting to my unconnected pro-audio card instead of to my default desktop speakers. If you need a Windows 7 compatible PCI modem, stick with U.S. Robotics. The U.S. Robotics V.92 PCI Software Faxmodem USR5670 has drivers available for all Windows operating systems and runs on Windows 7 with the Microsoft driver included within Windows 7 (no additional driver needed.) I shipped my Trendnet modem back to Amazon for a refund. Amazon promptly authorized the return and refunded the payment including return shipping costs. The USR5670 installed and worked fine in my old computer under Windows XP, but would not connect above 44K baud. I could not connect at 45.2K baud as I could with my old USR5560A modem. I kept the USR5670, but this irked me enough to try one more modem. I looked at the U.S. Robotics 56K V.92 Performance Pro Modem USR5610C , a hardware modem. It works with every Windows operating system from MS-DOS through Windows 7 plus Linux. A new USR5610C modem is pricey, but I found and ordered a factory refurbished USR5610C modem available online for only a dozen bucks plus change with free shipping included, a real bargain! The USR5610C easily installed and its flash memory was easily updated with software downloaded from the U.S. Robotics support site. This modem connected at 45.2K baud, and, as an added bonus, it maintained a steadier and faster transfer rate downloading files and surfing than any of the previous software modems I tried. In fact, with this modem I was finally able to successfully download a file I had been unable to download from one website after numerous attempts over many weeks. If you need a low-profile PCI modem, the USR5670 PCI modem includes both standard and low-profile brackets. The USR5610C is a standard size PCI modem and will not fit in a low-profile computer case. The bottom line, forget the Trendnet modem (1 star). The USR5670 software modem works okay (4 stars), but if you see a bargain priced refurbished USR5610C Performance Pro hardware modem (5 stars), go for it! (Note: make sure you get a USR5610C modem, NOT a USR5610A modem. The USR5610A does not run under all Windows systems!)

I did not buy a fax modem card with my new Lenovo Windows 7 work station. I loaded it with memory to run high end business applications. I attached a nice Fujitsu scanner that interface very well. I figured that a fax/modem PCI card would be great. Just scan the pages and launch the fax software and woosh off it goes. Well, not exactly. Comparing it to my 8 year old Canon L170 fax machine the computer modem is like a snail. The time it takes to send a fax via the computer is like quadruple the time, approximately a minute per page. A 6 page fax in 6 minutes, not exactly Olympic speed. Plus keeping a fax line open for 6 minutes is very difficult and often the fax transmission fails. If you want to receive faxes via the fax modem open all the time the computer must stay on 24 hours a day. The card was inexpensive so I am not going to return it. Plus there is some value if I want to send a PDF as a fax and save printing it out and faxing it the conventional way. This problem may be the extra processing that the computer must do to send the fax. I cut the down the scanner resolution to reduce the file size but it did not make much difference. The address book is nice with the system making it easy to pick out frequently used numbers easily but this does not make up for the slow speed. With Windows 7 the instructions clearly state to run the CD software first and then insert the modem/card in an available PCI slot. I have other Trendnet products like fast Ethernet switches that work very well. I think if you still need to send/receive many faxes stay with a good brand fax machine like Canon.

Considering the low cost, I bought two of these modems so I'd have an extra on the shelf in fear that finding internal dialup modems will become more and more difficult. The modems were purchased to work with PhoneTray Dialup software by Traysoft which is caller id software that will display and/or voice announce and log incoming calls. The software also allows you to automatically hang up on unwanted calls (my primary reason for getting the software). Only modems that will recongnize the incoming caller id will work and this modem does the trick. I've also successfully used this modem with other software for the rare occasion that I've had to do dialup and I also use it occassionally with Microsoft Fax that is included with Windows XP. This modem replaces a modem of the exact make/model that worked for almost 2 years but quit working after a storm. If you find you modem quits working you might consider putting a spike suppressor on the phone line to prevent another modem from bitting the dust (like I should have done). Not being able to withstand a spike thru the phone line is not a manufacturer defect. A lot of surge suppressor power strips and battery backups provide input/outut ports for your phone line. If needed, I would buy this modem again.

This modem works fine so far. I didn't have trouble getting the MOH to install, I just couldn't find it. Right-clicking the application icon in the system tray of the desktop displays this option. I am not very computer literate, so I didn't think to look there. You must run the software installation FIRST before hardware installation according to the instruction book. Even so , my computer could not find the both drivers. I ended up going thru "my computer" and clicking on the "drivers" and then they installed.( There is an audio driver also). So far everything is running good. I also had to change a setting on ISP dial up box so that it would choose the correct modem. I just wanted to add these things in case there is someone like myself out there who purchases this. Hope this helps.

Jetzt kann ich problemlos Fitz!fax unter Windows 7 (64 Bit) PC benutzen. Alle im Internet angebotenen Tipps hatte ich vorher ergebnislos ausprobiert.

Für gelegentliche Faxe benötigte ich ein Modem. Damit USB-Ports frei bleiben habe ich eine Steckkarte gekauft. Installation funktionierte gut. Preis ist oK.
