This set of Strapright 72 Color Pencil set comes in a nice flip top metal tin with 72 different colored pencils held securely within two slotted plastic pencil trays which fit on top of each other. The pencils arrived well sharpened with no broken pencil points and the colors are vibrant. All pencils arrived in excellent condition with no breakage, cracks or splinters in the pencil casing. Each pencil is topped with a golden color top with a black stripe followed by the color of each pencil. The pencils do not come with a color listing or color number to indicate a color reference and the only marking on each pencil is the word “Strapright” in gold lettering.In coloring, I found that the colors went on smooth with very little effort and did not experience any scratching or scuffing while coloring. Depending on a soft touch or hard touch, the pencils stayed true with no pencil point breakage and the colors blended very well together. In sharpening, the pencils sharpened smoothly, did not crack or break.I have several sets of colored pencils and I really do like this set and I am glad I decided to add it to my art supplies. The only drawback that I could honestly say would be that you cannot reorder a particular color if you ran out due to no color reference or color number. I am completely satisfied with this purchase and would purchase again. I feel these are high quality and each pencil is rich in color and they are very reasonably priced. I recommend this set and it would be a great addition to anyone’s art supplies.

As a color pencil artist I am constantly looking for new pencils to try out. There are a few major plusses for these pencils, as well as some drawbacks:+1 =very creamy colors, lays down on the paper very nicely+2 = layerable, I managed 7 layers of color on a very basic Strathmore yellow drawing paper+3 = nice color range, I particularly love the blues, has some colors that are unique shades to this brand+4 = the price is fantastic, for the quality of pencil and ease of use these are an excellent value+5= well packaged. Metal thin and plastic insert trays help keep the pencils well organized. They all arrived with their tips in place and none broke on me as I tested the colors outThe minuses:-1 = no color names or numbers-2 = no lightfast ratings-3 = nor sure if they are oil or wax basedIf you're purchasing for the purpose of using them for adult coloring books,these negatives really shouldn't matter to you, if you're purchasing them for use in artwork proceed carefully and be sure to do your own lightfast testing so you have a better idea of which colors will work best in your work,and which colors you should avoid. In general, I believe you could seal them with a UV protectant spray and frame with UV blocking gallery glass and it would considerably extend the life of your artwork (as can be done with most any art medium). I have not tested the colors to check compatibility with sprays and/or to see if they affect the final color. Will update my review later with photos as well as with a more elaborate review when I've had a chance to actually draw something substantial with then.

72 QUALITY colored pencils for under $30 !!! This is the BEST colored pencil purchase I ever made...and I've bought OVER 10 sets...so far! The Strapright pencils are smoooooth. The colors are beautiful and SO many to choose from. This set of colored pencils has raised my enjoyment of sketching and coloring adult coloring books by at least 75%. NO kidding! I use them everyday for at least 6 hrs. so I know what I'm talking about. Grab these pencils NOW before the makers realize how good they are and raise their price. You won't be sorry. Every bit as good as Prismacolor at a fraction of the price! (I also have 2 sets of Prismacolor. Premiere and Scholar.) Thank you Strapright!

Bought this item so I could use some of the adult coloring books. I have coloring for relaxation for over 15 years and am glad others are finally catching on. Adult coloring books have many narrow and small detailed areas to color and my crayons were too big to color accurately and stay within the lines, so I am trying colored pencils. The metal box for storage is great and protects the tips from breaking during travel off. Box folds flat so the second tray can be set in the top making it easy to view all available colors at once. There is a nice assortment of colors, however some are very similar to each other. I had hoped there would be more of a difference in the color shades. They came sharpened and are easy to color with. I am use to crayons so I have had to get use to how the pencils leave markings showing the direction you colored. One review said these blended easily, but it has not been the case for me. Maybe I am doing it wrong. The leads are soft as stated in the description. The hexagon shape of the pencils which is to assist in decreasing them from rolling off the table, but they roll away easily making more noise than a pencil does in the process. I any happy with the product, but wish there were a greater difference between colors. Also wish trays were more sturdy. It also would have been great if they had been organized or grouped in the trays by similar colors. I think I am just too use to Crayola crayons. I am happy and would recommend this product to a friend.
